The Hotdamns, a rocking country band from the back porches of Richmond, VA, started in the spring of 2006, when Danielle decided to look for a new musical driection in Richmond, Va. After hearing Jay's demo of Oh! Sweet Guilt Trip (the title being a play on the Velvet Underground song "Oh! Sweet Nutin'), she accepted his pleas to be in her new band. Frank, a relative newcomer to the Richmond area (though bicoastal veteran of various punk scenes), was soon added on drums. Once David was added on guitar and vocals, the band began playing around Richmond. Fans of country, punk, and rock and roll all found something that spoke to them in the music of the Hotdamns and, soon enough, they had a loyal following all their own.
After hearing some rough home recordings, famed local producer John Morand (Cracker, Sparklehorse, Carbon Leaf, Strike Anywhere, etc.) took interest and began recording the band's five song ep (recorded at Sound of Music studios, and mastered at The Kitchen in Chapel Hill, NC). His guidance in the studio helped shape their sound, bringing forth a new sense of craftsmanship and professionalism, which they have applied to all aspects of the band. The band's sound and personality continued to solidify as they played more shows throughout the Richmond area, and even began venturing south, playing two shows in North Carolina.
As of late, a fifth Hotdamn (Kelsey) has joined the band, playing lead guitar and fiddle. With his degree in violin performance from VCU and his guitar experience in Richmond punk band The Falling Action, he adds yet another element of musicality to the band's ever-developing sound. Having begun to make a name for themselves within Richmond, the band now seeks to bring its music to cities around the US of A, beginning with its upcoming tour of the southeastern region.
