As Human consists of Jason Fraticelli (bass player for Matisyahu), Ryat (sings with Disco Biscuits/King Britt and so on..), Dion Paci (you can catch him on stage with anyone from Billy Martin to members of Ween to Calvin Weston) and Tim Conley (guitar player for Grimace Federation).

This group originally formed in 2006 when Ryat met Jason Fraticelli (who was playing with Taylor McFerrin & The Cell Theory) and Tony Catastrophe (a well-known philly drummer and ex-Fathead member) at the AQUALOUNGE in Philadelphia PA. Tony Catastrophe, who had seen Ryat perform before, asked her to set up a jam session ... And the magic began ... Tony and Ryat rocked their first experimental drum/bass/keys looping session and knew they needed to get Fraticelli involved. They recorded the entire session and Ryat gave Fraticelli a disc along with two pages of notes on how she wanted to arrange the improv into songs. Fraticelli, who later claims to never have listened to the tape, made a session date to play. There was a wild connection between this crew of improvisers. Fraticelli and Catastrophe had been looking for a singer who could improvise, write, and jive with them for a long time. It was a bonus that she played many instruments and produced as well.

So the three set out, auditioning guitar players/keys and so on ... Dion Paci, who been playing in a trio with Fraticelli and Catastrophe under the working title "Kilo", took part in some of the early formative sessions. But it wasn't until a wild party in Doylestown, PA, at a place people call "The Sinking Ship House" that they had found there definitive line-up. The jam just happened ... the instruments were just set up ... and Tim Conley joined the group. Fraticelli and Conley had been playing together for years in Conley's band Ocean Exposition, a diverse, compositionally based quartet, which had much recognition and acclaim already. There connection was obvious and Conley's compositions and multi-instrumental chops really brought the group to another level. Dion Paci, (who was winding down a long stint with his project Mad Cow) had kept an eye on the project's evolution and was in, providing the final glue that made this group really work. His chord substitutions, arranging sensibilities, atmospheric playing, and vast production capabilities, allowed this group to finish their first record titled Kilo (the original name of the band) in June of 2008.

Despite Tony Catastrophe leaving the band in the spring of 2008, As Human has been lucky enough to play with world-class drummers Nigel Sifantus, Doug Hirlinger, Justin Leigh, and has continued to have special guests such as Taylor McFerrin come and perform.

Currently, the group is working on their second record and continues to do small tours all over the country and soon..the world..
