Their self-titled debut, Jakob Freely was given a 4.5 out of 5 by the aforementioned UNSIGNED Music Magazine, who also stated that the album has an "alternative sound that should gain a large following." Applauze Magazine, based in Minnesota, calls "Jakob Freely" "distinctably upbeat and refreshing." Always looking ahead, the boys decided to ready themselves for their next project by recording their newer demos “living room style” LIVE around a single microphone in a friends apartment. The result is the Loyola EP Session I. The disc possesses JF crowd favorites such as "DogFarm" and "Radio" as well as older unreleased material like "Chase" and "Mr. Wizard." Dave explains JF's new direction. "Every band needs to grow, we just decided to start writing more melodic material instead of straight party music all the time." Drawing comparisons to early Guster, the new JF direction still holds on to the "ireverance and humor" that the original Freely sound possessed, while leaving room for more melody and instrumentation. “We’ve even been trying to expand our shows,” Bobby says “recently we’ve added someone on mandolin and upright bass.”

As the boys round the corner going into their third year, the focus remains on recording another album, continue touring, and making sure FreelyFest continues to grow.
