The Murders began originally as a side project of one Jacobb T. Sackett, back in early 2004. After the fall of the band that Jacobb was preoccupied with, he was able to focus all of his energy and songwriting into a new musical entity he called The Murders. Spending countless days and hours recording The Murders’ first LP “Such A Romantic” in his home studio, The Murders first songs were released into the internet across tons of different independent music sites. The music received a very unexpected and warm greeting, and many people were showing excitement in the music of The Murders. The musical one man project then added another member, in the form of Jacobb’s longtime girlfriend and fiancé, Ashley Nitchals, who joined on Bass & Synthesizer. Ashley had been the bassist in band with Jacobb prior to the creation of The Murders.
For a long time, the band was only a duo, in the form of Jacobb and Ashley. For the next year and a half, Jacobb and Ashley recorded The Murders’ newest full-length and, once again, homemade LP, “Sedusa”. At the time, the only public viewing of The Murders was via the internet. But the songs that were sampled off “Sedusa” for public listening and download received an even bigger reception than the first album, as the new album was much heavier and harder-edged. Songs like “Bob’s A Trooper”, “Entering Jupiter”, “Endangered” and various others became live show & internet favorites, as these songs truly define The Murders’ sound and style. With much support from fans and the excitement of being able to perform live for the first time as The Murders, the band added the incredible Dr. James Litke on Rhythm & Lead Guitar. Within a few weeks, The Murders added their final member, longtime friend and musical collaborator Randall Post on Guitar, Backup Vocals, and Synthesizer. Jacobb T. Sackett then placed himself on Lead Vocals, Drums, and Percussion, instruments he grew up playing and was very familiar with. One of the aspects that makes The Murders interesting and intriguing to people is their live shows, which is comprised of Jacobb on drums whilst singing lead vocals, which is a form that seems to be a dying breed in modern music. Knowing the risks involved in leading a band from behind a drum kit, The Murders put on an incredible live show, from strobe lights to gigantic red balloons to various masks depicting former presidents of the USA. A bright yellow mess of “caution tape” is usually strewn about the amps and drum kit, creating a pseudo crime scene.
Priding themselves on their indie rock, new wave, and old school punk upbringings and influences, The Murders perform the music they love and have a sound that came naturally to them. Their post-punk sound has brought them the attention of music lovers of much different extremes. From your average indie rocker, to the most extreme punks, and from Goths, to long-haired head bangers.
The current line-up of The Murders is:
Jacobb T. Sackett-Vocals, Drums, Percussion
Ashley Nitchals-Bass, Synthesizer
Randall Post-Backup Vocals, Guitar, Synthesizer
Dr. James Litke-Rhythm & Lead Guitar
The Murders will be working on a new album due out later in 2007, and in the meantime will be releasing their first and second LP’s, “Such A Romantic” and “Sedusa” before the end of the year to various internet music retailers such as CDBaby.com.
