Bringing Western and Asian culture together thru music has always been RadioHiro's main objective. After being blown away by the musical ferocity of John McLaughlin's SHAKTI release, while studying free jazz with the legendary Hal Russel, there was no turning back. From there he went on to offer his services to the legendary Tranquility Bass (exist dance/astralwerks), a group that notably founded trip hop and was responsible for the classic Indian electronic cut, Cantamilla (Birth of Cool II/MoWAX). Radiohiro by name, began in 1998 as a bi-weekly pirate FM radio and live internet broadcast, taking Asian Underground, Bhangra, and Bollywood music and combining it with modern day electronic Drum and Bass records. After a year of incubation, Radiohiro brought the show out to the infamous Burningman Festival in the Nevada's Black Rock Desert for a 6 year residency, spinning the latest in global music styles, while maintaining the FM radio and internet presence. A studied musician/drummer since the age of 8, RadioHiro now combines his musical training with a profound love for Indian Classical music, re-writing the sound of Asian Underground with a dark, hard driving, yet melodic style.
An ardent supporter of music from within the Indian community, RadioHiro, spends much of his time multi track recording and promoting live concerts for such masters as Ustad Zakir Hussain, Ustad Sultan Khan, Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, Shoba Joshi, Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma, Ustad Rashid Khan, Pt. Jasraj, Ajoy Chakrabarty, Rajkumar Rizvi, Tabla Beat Science, Rhydhun, Karsh Kale, Fareed Haque, Deepak Ram, Anuradha Pal, Ulhas Kashalker, Samir Chatterjee, Kushal Das, and many other greats. Radiohiro hits the turntables and drums in concert live on a regular basis and has been performing yearly at the Chicago World Music Festival, and other cultural events across the nation.
