Listen on Rhapsody
Before it was Bob Marley & The Wailers, it was simply The Wailers, streetwise youths singing in the shantytowns of Kingston. Then, of course, international success followed, at least until lead singer Marley's death in the early '80s. The group remains vital though, their back catalog and sound too heavy to deny. Grounded by the bone-rattling bass of the legendary Aston Familyman Barrett, and fleshed out by Al Anderson and Earl Wya Lindo, The Wailers remain a walking history lesson on reggae, rocksteady and roots music.
