Goodbye Hollywood, Fabrika Gryoz...

The former Vologda, Russia guitar virtuoso and songwriter Zhenya Rock delivers an American / Turk / Russian / Psycho Internationally-infused roller coaster of sound. Since playing naked on the streets of Santa Monica with former outfit Siberian Surf-rockers The Red Elvises (www.redelvises.com), Z is now Austin, TX based. The Elvises have claimed a cult status throne in the club scene, and Zhenya penned some of their biggest hits, including the full soundtrack for Six String Samarai and the full album "Bedroom Boogie."

Zhenya is back to his gypsy roots, and fell in love with bluegrass as a teenager in Russia. "I was 7 years old and was a typical good Russian schoolboy, going to a Soviet school. A magazine arrived with a disposable vinyl record in it. I played it, and I was blown away. I have been mesmerized by bluegrass ever since."

His latest project "ZEEGRASS" is a blend of many musical styles, and a unique approach to the acoustic and electric musical instruments such as customized Reverend electric guitar, 12 string Martin acoustic guitar, banjo, custom russian balalaika, turkish joombush, upright and electric basses, hand percussion and drums.

Z has a background as a writer and composer for the russian theatre as well as russian rock bands. Since 2003 Zhenya has toured Europe, Russia and America numerous times, performed as a solo act and together with various established musicians such as Tony Whiting - drummer for late Dee Dee Ramone of the Ramones, Mike Dillon (Hairy Apes BMX, Primus, Ani DiFranco) and Pat Mastelotto - drummer for King Krimson. Worked and recorded with legendary Texas acoustic musicians such as Dave Piters - mandolin and Kelly Lancaster - (Willie Nelson Band) - guitar, banjolaika , Leeann Atherton and collaborated with a variety of ethnic players from Houston based band The Gypsies, including the band's founder, Greg Harbar, accordion. Zhenya also appeared as a guest musician and guitar workshop participant on Jam Cruise 4.
