MOTHER VINEGAR is a rock band from the mountains of Asheville, NC, formed in the spring of 2005. The group dabbles in rock, jazz, bluegrass, Indian, old-time, punk, metal, reggae, and pop music.
Karl Engelmann
Karl is best known as the author of several Umphrey's McGee concerts staples, such as "Bright Lights Big City," "Resolution," "Kabump," "Syncopated Strangers," and "Partyin' Peeps." Karl was also the vocalist/bassist for the popular midwest rock band Ali Baba's Tahini, which included drummer Steve Krojniewski, and Umphrey's McGee guitarist Jake Cinninger. They released the studio album "Hopi Champa" in 1999, which has become a sought after collector's item . He was also a member of international reggae sensations The Natti Love Joys from 2000-2002. He is also the leader of old-time/bluegrass acoustic quartet Ravioli Riot. In addition to his music career, Karl is a dietary chef, and artist.
Kevin Cassels
Kevin has been playing in various bands since 1988, including pop punk trio Minus Us, popular Atlanta rock band The Well Drinkers, industrial rockers Bonedance, and metal/punk outfit Funky Jumpsuit.In 2000, he wrote "The Pharmer's Almanac Vol. 6: The Unofficial Guide to Phish," selling 12,500 copies within a year. He is currently the owner of the popular Asheville music store, Good Music and Other Stuff. Kevin was born on February 19, 1975, in New York City, and grew up in Atlanta, GA. He graduated from Western Carolina University in 1997.
Tommy Dennison
Best known in the Southeast as "The North Carolina Shredder", Tommy has been a fixture on the southeast music circuit for nearly a decade, leading such bands as Oliver's Soup, Honest Engine, Zyder Zee, and The Skinny. Tommy is a second generation guitarist, following in the footsteps of his father Steve Dennison, one of the most respected musicians in the southeast United States. Tommy was born in Miami, FL, on September 29, 1977, and grew up in the mountain town of Sylva, NC, graduating from Western Carolina University in 2000.
Jeff Hinkle
Jeff was a member of the eclectic fusion trio Big Block Dodge in the first years of the 21st century. The group released the critically acclaimed "Manifold Destiny" album in 2002 and recieved praise in the popular book "Jambands: The Complete Guide to the Players, Music, & Scene." The group shared the bill with an impressive roster of musicians before calling it quits in 2005, such as Derek Trucks, Jonas Hellborg, Lake Trout, Project Z, Col. Bruce Hapmton, Joe Bonamasa, Twinemen, Tinsley Ellis, and many more. Jeff also played bluegrass music in the Lonesome Road Band with Larry Keith (formerly with Dolly Parton).
