From the heart of the Deep South emerges a dynamic rock and roll band whose style is rooted in early grunge with an alternative edge. Formed in 2005 in the heat of an Oxford, Mississippi summer, WILX is not afraid to showcase their southern rock influences, either. One hundred percent focused on their high intensity live shows and crafting timeless, unadulterated rock tunes, WILX is a band ascendant. Having shared the stage with renowned national acts such as Perpetual Groove, North Mississippi All Stars and the Whigs as well as being featured on the Poplar Street Music Festival and AthFest, WILX is poised for the next gigantic step.
Now calling the musical monolith of Athens, Georgia home, the quartet has amassed a fervent following through commanding live performances and a relentless touring schedule. Spending nearly the entire 2006 and 2007 on the road, WILX has honed their creative chops into the powerful driving force it is today. Combining four vibrant musical personalities in Hayden Smith (guitar / vocals), Grant Mitchell (guitar / vocals), Wilkes Evans (drums) and Taylor Arnall (bass / vocals), the WILX sound encompasses decades of rock and roll influence.
The band’s first official release, Didactic Dichotomy, captures all of the memorable melodies, gritty blues rock riffs, rolling rhythms and resounding bass lines expected of the rock and roll juggernaut. Produced by legendary control man John Keane (R.E.M., Widespread Panic, Nanci Griffith) at his own studio in Athens, Keane harnesses WILX’s grunge vibe and classic rock feel. “Settle Down” showcases the trademark dueling guitar riffage between Smith and Mitchell while “To You and Yours” marches on with a sing-a-long chorus and a head bobbing beat. With a release date scheduled for September 2008, Didactic Dichotomy marks the next chapter for the Athens quartet.
WILX will be hitting the road this fall in full support of their debut album. Look for the band to be venturing to new regional markets in efforts of spreading the WILX vibe. Didactic Dichotomy will be available for purchase online through the group’s website (www.wilxband.com), CD Baby and iTunes, as well as at all of the group’s blistering live shows.
