When Herman Green returned to Memphis in 1967 after 22 years in San Francisco and New York City, his reputation as a saxophone player was solidified. He had played with Count Basie, Miles Davis, and Lionel Hampton. His best friend was fellow Hampton band member, John Coltrane.
