Coal Train is a hard-driving, bluegrass band that promises original, adapted and traditional tunes and guarantees an evening of solid entertainment. The band's eclectic influences and musicianship are fused to create a versatile, coherent sound tailored to the most formal or casual audience. The group emphasizes strong vocal harmonies, intricate instrumental arrangement and improvisation. They pride in true bluegrass tradition by fashioning themselves in suits and ties on stage, but when the place heats up, the coats come off and the ties loosen!
Since its inception, Coal Train has obliged many local bands as an opening act, but has made its way into the local music scene to headline venues that feature nationally recognized artists such as The String Cheese Incident, Galactic, Leftover Salmon, Yonder Mountain String Band and Garaj Mahal. The band has played numerous festivals, private and community events in the Southern Illinois region and are ready to go the distance for more of the same.
