Mars Retrieval Unit
Mars Retrieval Unit MRU: noun; 1. five earthling musicians collaborating to make a funk-infused, rock n roll dance party. 2. A force to bring you to your inner consciousness, thus shooting the mind into outer space, while the booty remains shaking on earth.

MRU performs a wide variety of original material, as well as choice cover songs. Alongside intricately composed, borderline progressive-rock original songs, covers from Funkadelic, Steely Dan, Rush, Pink Floyd Allman Brothers, and more can be heard, often weaved in and out of extended structured and improvised passages. For the last 4 years the band has been testing its music on the masses. MRU has played in numerous clubs around Portland, Eugene and the Oregon coast as well as area festivals and markets, private events, and being featured on televised and radio broadcast programs.

On random nights you may turn on your TV to channel 11 (in Portland), and see MRU's performance on Portland's Recycled Music NW (a Community Media production) filmed in 2006. They were also featured on KPSU's “Live Friday” radio show in September of 2005. On March 25, 2006, they received “Track of the Day” on GarageBand.com for the single “Entangled”. After holding standing gigs at several Portland venues in 2007, the band took some time off in early 2008 to regroup and write some new material, returning to the stage with a revitalized lineup and setlist at Horning's Hideout for their 25th Anniversary party in September 2008. With a slew of Festival dates lined up for Summer 2009, MRU is looking at a big year!
