Average Yeti was fully formed in November 2002 with Matt, Shane, Lee, and Dave. Matt and Shane met each other while playing in other bands. They soon started writing songs together and jamming frequently. There was a mutual connection and eventually decided to devote all attention to their creation. They eventually met Lee to help record a demo. Matt and Shane moved to Murfreesboro where they immediately began to search for a drummer and bassist. The met Dave on a flyer they had put out.
