THe VilLAge iDIOts began as a jam session a friend of ours got together in the spring of 2005. After a few more jams, the band began to take shape with Lee on vocals and congas, Will on vocals and guitar, Payton on bass, and John on drums.
THe iDIOts started playing gigs that fall.
Although we enjoyed playing as a four piece, we were eager to expand our sound. We wanted more overall balance and more presence without stepping on all of the space and dynamics in our music. After about a year of searching, we found exactly who we were looking for... Or, better yet, he found us!
And with that, Robert joined the band. Robert's keyboard sound and musical sensibility were a perfect fit; the band was complete.
So, now we're off and running. Well, maybe meandering aimlessly... After all, we are THe VilLAge iDIOts!
While it's true that we may be too easily taken in by confidence games, and we are inexplicably enamored of shiny objects, we do know this - THe VilLAge iDIOts is a very cool live band!
We push the envelope. We twist arrangements, impromptu segues, and call and response solos into a unique musical experience.
It's about listening to each other. It's about anticipation. It's about reacting to the music and the audience. It's about balance and expression...
And it's different every time!
