It's hard to believe that 7 kids who grew up together on the unforgiving streets of downtown Columbus, Ohio could even manage to survive, let alone teach themselves how to play multiple instruments, master those instruments, and form one of the most original bands to come out of Columbus in decades! It's mainly hard to believe because hardly any of it is true...but I had you going for a second didn't I?? Ok...so maybe they didn't all grow up together -or- on the streets.....but the way they manage to seamlessly knit together 7 different instruments in such effortless fashion, could easily have you believing otherwise.
Scarcely over 3 years have elapsed since this unique sevenfold first collaborated as a whole in a cluttered Columbus, Ohio basement in the heart of the OSU Campus. There was an instant chemistry noticed between them and since that time they've managed to piece together a solid, constantly evolving catalog of over fifty original songs, as well as a good assortment of obscure covers.
They've also established themselves as a prominent act in the Ohio music scene by participating in such festivals as the annual All Fall Down fest at Franbar Park and Hempfest. They've shared shows with such notable acts as Ekoostik Hookah, The JiMiller Band, Buckra, and Detroit's Bump. The band also frequently plays such popular venues as Ruby Tuesday's, Oldfield's on High, the Scarlet and Grey Cafe, Andyman's Treehouse, Cleveland's Peabody's Down Under and many more. You may even be surprised to find yourself running into them one afternoon on a random Columbus sidewalk or street corner during one of their rare impromptu acoustic performances.
Bum Wealthy's sound is entirely it's own; a sonic melting pot of seven distinct personalities' musical upbringings, influences, and experimental ideas. The end result struggles to be classified. It's a style that's rooted heavily in blues, funk, jazz, psychedelia, reggae, bluegrass and just plain in-your-face rock and roll. All genres aside though, it's the energy and the spontaneity they bring to their live performances that has fans of all types of music scrambling back to hear more.
The bond between the Bum Wealthy brethren, like their music, only continues to grow stronger. Over the past year they've exceeded even their own expectations. Though still only 2 years old, this is a group who promises to be around for many years to come. Wherever there's an eager ear willing to listen or an uninhibited soul looking to lose themselves in the music, there is Bum Wealthy. *
