Even the Animals blends dusky Americana with softly gritty indie rock. The band’s name comes from its own achingly pretty waltz-noir “Love and Loss.”
Though Even the Animals is known for their affinity to melodic ballads, not every song is a study in slowcore. Newly released single "Fire to metal" thumps and snaps; a tambourine pairs with kick drum and hand claps. The lyrics trip and spit; the whole track is a bonfire popping and crackling, bright-charged and leaping against a black sky.
