Bolting at you with a cry of, "I want to fuck LeAnn Rimes," Impediments strut in like new day New York Dolls, celebrating the loss of control over spit-speckled vocals, vigorous handclaps, lusty piano rolls, caveman rhythms, and chomping guitars. Many talk of a garage aesthetic but these recent high school grads from Berkeley, CA get good 'n' greasy. These are the sounds of a "Pleasant Valley Sunday" spent on a handful of lil' white pills trying to pump Michigan rattle (MC5, Stooges, Mitch Ryder and Detroit Wheels) through a rusty punk pipeline. Recorded and engineered by Greg Ashley (Gris Gris), this is perfectly refined rawness, just enough of everything to inspire slam dancing, even if there's only your stuffed animals or unwitting neighbors to whack against. Snot-smeared and Nuggets aficionado friendly, this debut is a fucking cool loogie in the eye of rock's orderly, commercially conscious mainstream. A-freakin-men, you unruly whippersnappers!
