OMINOUS SEAPODS THANKSGIVING REUNION

  • Send to a Friend

Ominous Seapods originally formed in Plattsburgh, NY, back in 1989. In the twelve years that followed they toured North America relentlessly drawing crowds to such notable venues as Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado and The House of Blues in Los Angeles, Boston, and Chicago. They also released five CD's: the first three independently, one on Hydrophonics/Megaforce and their last on Rykodisc.

In 1999 cofounder/lead guitarist/singer, Max Verna, left the band to pursue a career that required less travel and more time to spend with his family. The band considered their options and replaced Verna with long time friend and respected musician, Todd Pasternack. The new combination worked well musically and they soon signed a new record deal with Rykodisc and released the CD, Superman Curse in 2000.

In the summer of 2001 the band chose to go on an indefinite hiatus. However, the Seapods fanatic fan base still communicates regularly on the internet via the web page, www.Ominousseapods.com, and their e-mail fan group known as Pod-net which still has hundreds of members. So in 2003 the band decided to reunite with Max Verna and his replacement, Todd Pasternack, and do four shows in their favorite locations. A new limited edition "greatest hits" CD, including some previously unreleased live material, will be released on November 28th in Syracuse.

Syracuse was chosen as one of the locations due to a long history of successful shows and devoted fans. The band played many sold out shows at area venues including Styleens. Two of these shows were Mimi Fishman benefit birthday parties, one was a New Years Eve celebration and one show was recorded and parts of it were used for their 1998 live CD, Matinee Idols.

The first two reunion shows were last February in Albany and Saranac Lake and the fourth show is on November 29th in New York City at No Moore Bar with an old friend performing as Max.
