PRE-FUNK, "the Art of Funk" kicks off the 2nd Annual SF Funk
Fest with a
gallery opening featuring the artwork of George Clinton, Pedro Bell, Overton
Loyd, Stozo the Clown, Sirron Norris and the photography of Scott Chernis.
Sfunk performs live music for the Gala Party on Wednesday, November 6th at
Studio Z, 314 11th Street. The event starts at 6:00 pm and is FREE
to the
public.
Wednesday, November 6
THE DR. IS IN! George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic rock Ruby Skye for four
hours of superlative psychedelic grooves. What better way to kick off
a
festival devoted to funk culture, than to have the man most responsible
show
art, then throw down! Ruby Skye is located at 420 Mason St. Doors
open at 8:30, so there's plenty of time to dig on the art before you dig
on the

Friday, November 8
FUNK THE FUTURE explores the cutting edge of funk rhythms and
improvisational jazz music. New York City's new kings of jazz-funk,
Topaz, headline an evening of infectious dance music. Down-and-dirty
funksters ALO and DJ Romanowski open the show Friday, November
8th, at 9:00 pm at the Great American Music Hall (859 O'Farrell Street).
Tickets are $15 and available at the Great American Music Hall.

SOUTHERN FRIED FUNK explores the subtle and not-so-subtle influence
of Southern old school git' down music in the development of funk featuring
the Bay Area's own Zigaboo Modeliste and the New Aahkesstra. Papa Mali, Jerkuleeze, Funky Beulah and DJ Cathy Tamkin also perform on Saturday,
November 9th at Studio Z, 314 11th Street at 8 pm. Tickets are $20

Late night Friday, November 15
Club culture and funky beats collide at SF Funk Festival's HOUSE PARTY a
late night of the Bay Area's best and most innovative DJs spinning groovalicious
funk on Friday, November 15th at Kelly's Mission Rock, 817 China Basin.
Dance from 9:00 pm - 4:00 am with Biz Markie, DJ Z-Trip, Shortkut,
DJ Apollo, DJ Zeph, Leema, Pam the Funkstress, Mind

LATIN FUNK combines cool funk with hot salsa for an evening of O-MAYA's
sizzling Latin hip-hop on Friday, November 15th. DJ Papi Chocolate

SPACE FUNK is a tribute to the spirit of those who see a wall and choose

JAM FUNK underscores the impact the Jam Band scene has made by keeping
funk available to new audiences. Big E (boasting an all star line
up of Bobby Vega, Ray White, Alan Hertz, Eric Levi,
and Tal Morris) and road warriors Global Funk Council jam
at the Great American Music Hall on Wednesday, November 20th. Show

URBAN SOUL takes an up close and personal look at some of the freshest,
most exciting music being produced on the local scene by Goapele
and Martin Luther. Bay Area soul funk Roux start the evening and

2002 FUNK FEST ALL STARS line up includes the legendary Zigaboo Modeliste
and three musicians - Robert Walter, Chris Stillwell, and
Brian Jordan - who have made names for themselves with touring heavyweights
the Greyboy Allstars, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe and Robert Walter's 20th
Congress. New York's boogaloo ambassadors Sugarman 3 and DJ Motion
