Sun City Girls :: 09.03 - Seattle :: By Mary Grace Dunn
With deep regret, we must announce that Charles Gocher (percussionist for Sun City Girls) passed away yesterday (February 19) in Seattle due to a long battle with cancer at the age of 54. He is survived by the two of us who adopted him as a brother 25 years ago and his many friends around the world. He will be missed more than most could ever know. Our thanks to everyone for their support and encouragement during the past three, very difficult years. Many of you were not aware that Charles was ill and that's because he wanted it that way. Details of a memorial in his honor will be announced soon.

Well, this is bloody sad. Sun City Girls are a true original. Simply one of the strangest, greatest live bands I've ever seen. A totally different group night to night. Gocher was a monster of the best kind. Some of us will miss him lots.

I echo snappy's sentiments times ten. I am grateful to have witnessed some truely inspired art over the last few years, living here in their home town of Seattle. Charles Gocher will be missed.

so let's say that a jazz band's drummer passes away... time to find a replacement, perhaps? NOT if said jazz band is the ONLY ONE IN EXISTENCE. Charles Gocher is irreplaceable, as no other drummer plays Sun City Girls music. An amazing musician /artist/performer has left the building. RIP Charles Gocher.
