SAN FRANCISCO'S UNDERGROUND CULT HEAVYWEIGHT
RELEASES NEW ALBUM
UNDERGROUND COMMUNICATION, MAY 8, 2007 ON OM RECORDS

LOOK FOR BASSNECTAR ON TOUR THIS SPRING

Bassnectar
With "the largest cult following of any DJ in San Francisco" and voted "Best DJ" by Nitevibe.com and SF Bay Guardian, Bassnectar's music is forging new paths in the electronic music world, the Burning Man scene, underground hip-hop circles, and beyond. Playing at nearly one-hundred and fifty shows a year, to thousands of different people a month; from national festivals to sold-out theaters to overcrowded clubs and warehouses to tight and tiny bars and venues, Bassnectar's enormous popularity reflects the current hunger for raw substance in modern music and a desire for social integrity within the music scene. The brainchild of Lorin Ashton, Bassnectar is an experimentally collaborative music project, but it's also a platform for social change and political awareness. It's stylistically specific, yet it's an eclectic, full spectrum adventure.

Ten years into a strong underground career, 2005 saw the debut of Bassnectar's double-disc collection entitled Mesmerizing The Ultra, described as "a kaleidoscopically brilliant funk conception" by All Music Guide [Amazon.com]. For the next release, Underground Communication (Om Records/May 8, 2007), Bassnectar takes another step forward in his genre-bending blend of musical styles and emotions, combining the visceral melodic presence of modern listening music with the force and volume of sound system dancefloor devastation. The new record is an exploration of hip-hop culture, featuring scores of MCs and rhythmic poetics mashed atop a heavy, driving range of tempo and, of course, those signature throbbing bass lines. Rooted firmly in political conviction and philosophical intention, and backed by a rabid fan base and dedicated following, Underground Communication sets a new standard for the possibilities of merging music, art, new media and social activism.

Bassnectar's live shows are a modern day social mosh pit of hippies, ex-ravers, hipsters, dub reggae heads, Dead-heads, Burning Man freaks, artists, fashion experimentalists, social activists, and hip-hop enthusiasts, all packed into one steamy room of grinding, orgiastic expression and musical experimentation.

Bassnectar is on tour this spring in support of Underground Communication, including select shows with percussive groovers Zilla and visionary puppeteers the Funginears.

Bassnectar is the best "crossover" artist to date. If you haven't seen him yet then you better get on it!

anyone recommend something of bassnectar's to purchase?

also, any east coast dates in the near future?

madison house artist management really has an eye for up-n-coming, smart hip artists -- so why would bassnectar be the exception?

Lorin has been a good friend for a very long time and I'm happy to see him getting all the credit he finally deserves. From his days as a psychedelic trance dj for Koinonea, to his emergance as one of the premiere break beat dj/producers in the world he has never ceased to inspire me. If you haven't gotten the chance to see this man in action do yourself a favor and feel the Bassnectar!

I love Lorin and am glad he's starting to come up. He deserves it... he's innovative and has noble intentions fueling his mission. But I gotta say:Farquha, what you said was self-contradictory. Usually when - as you put it - "... many people are obsessed with... " something, that sort of automatically makes it "hot shit" in itself doesn't it? Why don't you say why you don't like his music? Or provide some sort of substance rather than empty disses. And what does "house hop" have to do with Bassnectar? It's not like enough people don't already know about Mushroom Jazz... jeez, how ORIGINAL of you.

cliftonhanger - he has done tons of work with sts9? but regardless should jambase not mention dj shadow or dj harry, or the thousands of other dj's who are badass and bring diversity to the scene cause they don't play an instrument?

Pay no attention to Clifton. Anybody still labeling these groups as "jambands" is not all that intelligent.

I caught bassnectar at Sea of Dreams this past new years, and i was not that impressed, i thought he had mad talent, and very creative, but didnt quite do it for me... it was definately for the kids on E, like cliftonhanger said, i was dosing so i was kinda "scared" away from that, i do remember one really cool song, that was a samba beat, sounded like manu chau, actually i think it was a manu song, anyways that was cool until he switched to some lame thizz pit bass driven trance shit...hes okay though...

Scared away!?!? Ha! that is hilarious. I couldn't imagine. This guy drops some of the sickest grooves. Pick up his main double disc off his website... Mesmerizing the Ultra. I couldn't imagine ANYONE being disappointed by that. At least not scared away.

Anyhoo... he is not only a creative force, but he pushes the good vibe in the community. He even collaborated with SCI!

I would DEFINITELY (for vinyl lovers) check out Bassnectar's remix of Cheb I Sabbah’s ‘Alkher Illa Doffor’ on the Blue State Riddim Blue vinyl!!! SERIOUSLY.

One thing... don't bootleg his newest copy. I know it is floating around CO.. and say what you want about big name stuff, but this guy needs EVERY PENNY you can possibly help out with.

Fact is, as a DJ you are touring alone, looking at bus or hotel room walls, doing all your promoting online... it is a drag, and to have something ripped from your mind BEFORE it is released (like some of the bootlegs of his new album), it is, for lack of a better concept... INCREDIBLY lame. And rude. And other stronger words. Anyhoo...

THANK YOU JAMBASE FOR PROVIDING THIS INFO!!! WE WANT IT AND NEED IT AND WE LOVE YOU ESPECIALLY ANDY AND HOW CUTE HIS DIMPLES ARE. And Tanner. So crazy a boy that Tanner.

Toodles.

How can anyone say he has no talent. Are you on stage doing what you love? Probably not. Saw him at Wakarusa. .This guy us amazing. anyone who spins sts9 is good in my book. Turntableists are some of the most talented people out there. The ability to manipulate a record to create new sounds and music blows my mind. Go see him, and you will be impressed
