CORNELL QUITS AUDIOSLAVE

Chris Cornell
Chris Cornell has left Audioslave, because of "irresolvable personality conflicts as well as musical differences," according to a statement.

Cornell, the ex-Soundgarden frontman, formed Audioslave with three former members of Rage Against The Machine, after Zack de la Rocha left Rage.

"This is something I don't want to do anymore," Cornell told Billboard.com of Audioslave. "There were problems from the very beginning and we dealt with them in a great way. We made three great records. We were a band that got along great, but we've also had our differences. My focus is definitely on doing my own music now."

Cornell will release his second solo album, Carry On, due May 1 on Suretone/Interscope. The 14-track record was produced by Steve Lillywhite and includes a cover of Michael Jackson's "Billy Jean" (which Cornell has been known to play live) as well as "You Know My Name," the theme to the recent James Bond film Casino Royale.

Rage sucked - a bunch of marxist propaganda put to crappy hardcore music. It is a total waste of Tom Morello's talents. I hope to god that there is NEVER, NEVER another album, concert, song, or even second of stage appearance by Rage Against the Machine - because they blow.

Rage was awesome and im glad to see theyre gettin back together(war in iraq/iran?), soundgarden was amazing so yes you'd think audioslave would be good too. they arent mind blowing but they did have a few good tunes IMO

I'm a pretty big fan of rage + phish and would sell all my material possesions to meet Bob Dylan in the late 60's, 70's, but wasn't too into most of Audioslaves stuff. I don't think you can really compare phish and rage against the machine, they were both using music to express two pretty different elements of life, and had pretty different styles at that.

Cornell just wasn't a good fit.I saw Rage when they were on tour with Wu-Tang,fortunately the Wu cancelled after StL and Rage played KC without them. They didn't announce the cancellation until the place was packed then offered refunds to anyone who wanted 'em.About 60% of the crowd left(?)and they opened up the floor so the rest of the ticketholders could get up front. It was, beyond any doubt, the best show I ever saw in my life.Saw Audioslave,it was nothing. Please,Please,do at least one more Rage tour!!!

I don't care for redneck republican rock either. I'm more of a neoclassical liberal than anything else - I was breastfed on Lockean liberalism, Adam Smith's economics, and the new-left's social policies. I suppose that makes me more of a libertarian than anything else. I think Socialism, and Communism in particular, is dead - it is the refuge of the stupid, naive, and insane.

Look, I understand that Rage has a huge fan base, but the point is they just were not that good and it was a waste of Tom Morello's talent...not to mention that Chris is a far superior vocalist than Zach. Any musical departure should be mourned and this one is no different, you may not agree with what I have to say, but any day that a band with this much talent breaks up, for any reason, is a sad day indeed.

This is definitely good news. Audioslave was great, they had one unbelievable CD followed by two decent ones and played a great live show, but it was clear that they were declining fast. Cornell is a different person now from when he started with Audioslave, and sounds like he has his own thing set on. Hopefully this will fully reunite Rage.

Rage, Soundgarden, and Audioslave all have good songs. They also all have some crap songs. That's the way it is, it's just what you like to hear. Cornell has some pipes, that's for sure, and Tom Morello has always been one of my favorite guitarists. Rage is playing Coachella, which is good news to me. As for Cornell, he's got such a voice, he'll find something to do. (Solo, Soundgarden, or Temple of the Dog, perhaps?)

Growing up as a kid I used to worship Tom Morello as a guitarist. Then I realized that he hasn't done anything new on guitar for 10 years. Now I come to the conclusion that he's possibly over rated.

RATM was a great band but then all their stuff started sounding the same. Hopefully they're ready to come back and explore new directions. And maybe this time they'll get a drummer that knows more than two fills.
