EDDIE VEDDER JOINS JACK JOHNSON
AT THE FOURTH ANNUAL KOKUA FESTIVAL

APRIL 21 - 22 WAIKIKI SHELL - OAHU

Jack Johnson
Honolulu, Hawaii: Hawaii's own, Grammy-nominated musician Jack Johnson is proud to host the Fourth Annual Kokua Festival on Earth Day weekend - April 21 and 22, 2007 at the Waikiki Shell in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The festival's incredible music lineup includes Jack Johnson, Eddie Vedder and Boom Gaspar of Pearl Jam, young troubadour Matt Costa, and local Island favorites: Ernie Cruz Jr., and the Girlas.

All proceeds go to the Kokua Hawaii Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by Jack and Kim Johnson to support environmental education programs in Hawaii. The funds raised from the Kokua Festival will be used to further support school recycling on Oahu, sponsor field trips and curriculum, and develop the new farm-to-school program 'AINA in Schools.

In addition to the eclectic mix of live music, the Kokua Festival's Kokua Village lets fans experience eco-friendly clothing from Patagonia, sustainable shoes from Simple Shoes, and organic yogurt from Stonyfield Farm. Many other local food and beverages, products and services from green companies, alternative energy demonstrations, interactive games and crafts for the kids, and information from environmentally active groups from around the islands will also be featured.

The Kokua Festival aspires to reduce its environmental impact by offsetting the festival's emissions, running generators and festival vehicles on bio-diesel, recycling, using biodegradable concession ware, and offering eco-friendly merchandise including reusable totes, bottles, and organic cotton clothing. Fans are encouraged to make an "Earth Day Resolution" to reduce their environmental impact leading up to the festival and throughout the year.

As the first MySpace LIVE event of 2007, the MySpace LIVE at The Kokua Festival will broadcast the concert for viewers as well as feature behind-the-scenes MySpace Video footage and interviews with Jack and Friends. MySpace will be developing additional unique offerings in celebration of the Kokua Festival and Earth Day. Visit www.myspace.com/kokuafestival the official MySpace online home of The Kokua Festival.

A one-hour special on the 2006 Kokua Festival will air on the National Geographic Channel in 50 countries starting April 1, 2007.

Tickets are $40 for general admission/lawn, $50 reserved seats, $125 in the seated pit area, and $20 general admission for children 3-12. Children under 3 are free.

Tickets will be available exclusively to Kokua Hawaii Foundation members starting February 6th. Go to www.kokuahawaiifoundation.org to become a member today!

Tickets to the general public will be available via Jack Johnson's web site www.jackjohnsonmusic.com on February 10, via www.myspace.com/kokuafestival on February 15 and at all Ticketmaster outlets, online or by phone at (877) 750-4400 starting February 17.

The Kokua Hawaii Foundation thanks Patagonia, Simple, Stonyfield Farm, and many other like-minded companies and organizations for their support! The Kokua Festival is produced locally by Pau Hana Productions with additional coordination by MusicMatters.

I was hoping it'd be like a "PJ/JJ" world tour. That's cool though, always good to encourage people to be Earth conscious. Cuttyfives, keep spreading the hate daily on the jambase boards brother. That's less time you could be out procreating.

I love your humor cutty! On a serious note this a good for Hawaii being that it addresses environmental and recycling issues. The islands would look like a big landfill if nobody cared. Forget the lei's, assless chaps for everyone!

negativity aside, something smells fishy and it's not just Jack's upper lip.
come on peeps. are we going to let these musicians get away with this? personally, I think there is nothing cooler than green festies and I will continue to promote/support such causes, but....come on Jack. I'm not sure what you've been puffing on the ALO bus (cough,cou..chagalactic.uh.um), but HEY BRAH, if promoting factory farms, huge corporations and..**FOX**..as "sustainable", "earth/eco friendly" and as "environmental activists" is how you need to get your point across.....well, then point taken.

...this just in..

This summer, Jack Johnson & Queen Latifah will be touring this great country of ours! They are expected to hit 40-50 Wal-Mart Locations and will be supported along the way by Tom Ridge, Anne Coulter and the Sam Walton Big Band!
Tickets will be $85 or $130 after charges. A percentage of the proceeds will go to help with the tax cuts on our countries wealthiest citizens and to help get Jack more of whatever he's been smoking. Of course, the shows are 18 and below ONLY as there will be oreos and purple punch available at a discounted finance charge.
So, come on and PROVE how much you like the planet. Come on...blow your wad on a plane ticket, dump fuel from Florida to Hawaii and stay at an extremely wasteful resort that was built on the beach as soon as they could rape the pristine ocean front land, culture and life. Why, to show the world (or what's left of it) how important the environment is to YOU!

I don't know about you but I'm glad I didn't get my Bioneers ticket yet. F that and touring with HBRSB. Jack Johnson Jacks! I mean rocks. I mean...

James, I hear what your saying. But, with all do respect, It seems to me that those Islands, as well as it's people and culture would be absolutely, 100% better off if we (Westerners, Americans, etc..) would forget it was ever there. Sure, our tourism provides resources in the means of cash and employment. But those jobs are mostly low paying service jobs, i.e., cleaning up after us tourists. What makes money doesn't always make sense.

good point jalew, but i mean at least the environmental awareness spread by fests like this near balances out all thge airplane fuel, etc. burned to make them happen, maybe, i don't know, hopefully. it's an uphill battle to help balance out the environment amongst human beings, that's for sure.

Aaaahhh...Jalew,how refreshing it is to read comments as realistic and sarcastic as yours with a nice "Punch You In The Eye" sharpness. Although I appreciate JJ's efforts to give back to his homeland, it's not like he's going out of his way, (as he lives on North Shore), or interrupting any 200 night a year tour like the bands that deserve our admiration and dineros. I happened to be out working on Oahu 2 years ago when this event took place and let me tell you, a lot of the locals (who weren't busting thier asses working for the tourists) really don't care for us haule's (pronounced howley) or white mainlanders, as we're known as....and it's not a compliment.Uhhh...and theivywall, pop quiz! How many recycled cans does it take to offset the environmental damage caused by the burning of hundreds of gallons of jet fuel? Don't Know? Let's ask the polar bears who are extra-pissed these days as thier ice is melting faster than a popsicle at Bonaroo, circa 2004. So, if nothing else, please recycle your beer bottles, carpool to the nearest festivals and for God's sake do not waste your money on another Jack Johnson CD/DVD. Thank You

u r absolutely right jalew , this just wont do any good at all , i think the best way to make positive changes is to flood message boards w/ negative comments and bitch about something that isn't as cool as i am.ugggh , so frustrating.... dont forget to litter the roads in and out of town when you are carpooling to the roo'! not to say that you personally would litter , but i have seen some pretty shitty stuff like that at more than just one fest... just seems like these guys are making a real effort..peace in!

#1 - "did I hear Fox entertainment???"
- Yes. FOX OWNS myspace.

#2 - "i think the best way to make positive changes is to flood message boards w/ negative comments and bitch about something that isn't as cool as i am.ugggh , so frustrating.... dont forget to litter the roads in and out of town when you are carpooling to the roo'! not to say that you personally would litter"

yo...yo..kizzy,

* I think maybe you misread and/or misunderstood my comments. Not only did I intentionally acknowledge the possibility of your assumptions as "negative", but I also tried to communicate my sincere appreciation for these events. I'm serious too. See..I try to actually process my thoughts and information before I post my comments on the net. This helps me from posting random assumptions and judgments of others.

* As for your interpretation that I was trying to say I am cooler than "something", well...that wasn't my intention and, again, I purposely didn't make any references about how I live my life compared to anyone else.
But,(while I'm defending myself) I can assure you, kizzy, that I put MY thoughts to ACTION everyday. From voting with my dollar to my compost pile, to my CSA membership and beyond. What's that? Yeah you might have seen me VOLUNTEERING at shows. I've Rocked the Earth, as well as Headcount and many a green crew, which leads me to my next point.....

* .....well, unfortunately we haven't met yet. So (unlike you) I will not assume I know you, your values or anything else about your life and how you choose to live it. If you did know me (even just from these boards) I doubt you would come to the same assumptions. I love Jambase. It's a great tool and I use it a lot. At the same time I try to avoid the stereotypes and negativity in the forums. Most of my comments are meant to funny. I'm not 'that guy' and take offense to your characterization of me "littering" on my way to the "roo".

* CLIFF NOTES - Jalew's original point was that we have to protect these (environmental) causes and the terms used to describe them (green, sustainable, eco-friendly, etc..) from Corporations who seek to commercialize and exploit them in the name of $$$. These entities are the part of the problem, not the solution!
