SASQUATCH! GOES CARBON NEUTRAL IN 2007

Sasquatch 2006 by Greg Homolka
SEATTLE, WA - February 20, 2007 - Sasquatch! Music Festival is pleased to announce the official line up for their 6th annual event to be held over Memorial Day Weekend on Saturday, May 26 and Sunday, May 27 at the breathtaking The Gorge Amphitheatre. The Festival features over 50 artists on 3 stages. Tickets for the festival go on-sale Saturday, March 3 at 10:00 a.m. On-site camping for the festival is available for Friday, May 25 through Sunday, May 27 and reservations can be made upon ticket purchase.

For many concert-goers, the Sasquatch! Music Festival has become the official way to kick off the Summer concert season. Sasquatch! is an event unlike any other. National Geographic spotlighted the event last year saying that "more than 40 of the nation's hottest indie and rock bands play live at America's most stunning outdoor venue-the Gorge Amphitheatre, sited on cliffs above the Columbia River Gorge." These jaw-dropping views of the Columbia River that surround The Gorge set the stage for a concert experience that is refreshing as much as it is musically inspiring. Ben Gibbard of Death Cab For Cutie remarked that "having played every other U.S. festival over the last three years or so, I can say without hesitation that The Gorge is the best venue from both a performer's and a spectator's perspective. There's not a bad place to watch the bands from and the sunset over the mainstage is incredibly beautiful." That is perhaps the greatest part of the festival, fans and artists alike are able to see some of their favorite bands while discovering new ones, and they can do so while taking in magnificent views. It's the laid-back atmosphere of the festival that keeps the fans and the artists coming back year after year. After a biblical-style hail storm that cut short her set into the third song last year, Neko Case is back for round two: "I want to play Sasquatch! this year so I can accomplish my goal of making it through my whole set!"

The line-up for the 2007 Sasquatch! Music Festival is a testament to both the momentum and the dedicated following that this event has gained over the past five years. With this year's line-up featuring performances by internationally renowned artists Bjork, The Arcade Fire, Manu Chao and the Beastie Boys, what started off as a small festival meant to expand the boundaries of the Pacific Northwest music scene, has quickly turned into an international affair. For a festival of its size, the Sasquatch! bill promises to please fans with two solid days of diverse, handpicked music. And of course, the bill doesn't stop there. Leading the pack of buzz-worthy bands are indie up and comers from Toronto, Tokyo Police Club and Brooklyn's Grizzly Bear. Also securing spots on the 2007 bill are Interpol, M.I.A., The Hold Steady, Citizen Cope, and Spoon. In keeping with the festival's goals, the Yeti Stage will continue to showcase artists local to the Northwest. This year it will be represented by the likes of The Thermals, Smoosh, Viva Voce and Jesse Sykes. For the complete festival line-up please see below.

Sasquatch! is also excited to announce that for the first time ever, they will be teaming up with Esurance and Sustainable Energy Partners to make the festival a certified carbon neutral event. Carbon dioxide is one of the major causes of climate change and global warming. When CO2 is released into the environment, carbon offset programs make it so that an equal amount of carbon is reduced somewhere else. The preservation of the environment and the future of the Gorge are important to Sasquatch! Music Festival, which is why they are purchasing carbon credits through Sustainable Energy Partners. For every ton of carbon credits that are purchased, one ton of CO2 is reduced through reforestation, sequestration, and different types of energy efficient projects. The end result? A Sasquatch! Music Festival with a net carbon output of zero.

Dammit!! Why does everything cool happen on the west coast? What about the southeast - not including south Florida - but the real southeast! Bonnaroo is great, but it's all we've got! Durn!

Only good Sasquatch fest was the first one. Since then its been a Fratboy/high school fest, with expensive tickets, water, beer, and field camping. Not to mention the weather the past two years there was miserable (over 100 one year, and then hailing the next year) The Gorge is overrated.

This fest is the only fest that is anywhere near the PNW, so I go every year. The music is always good but the crowd does always suck. There's no community vibes at all, just a bunch of drunk washington frat boys. The ben harper into the flaming lips last year was awesome tho. too bad the hail storm ruined my visuals.

I agree that the Gorge scene sucks! It is a great venue with terrible owners/managers.

We have MANY better festivals in the PNW! Horning's Hideout is the BEST venue in the whole USA. if you like freedom, nature, great people.

If SCI plays there again this year it will be the BOMB once again.

First SASQUATCh was by FAR the best: Soul live, galactic, Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, and SCI (not to mention BH + SCI playing together was fucking sick). Since then it has tunred into something totally different. And, there is no escape from the weather in the campground. I'd say save your money and wait for WSP to come back to the Gorge this Summer(hopefully)...

some great bands on the bill for this fest...too bad the Gorge sucks like it does. Sure it's pretty...but as we all know, looks can only take you so far. I'll never go back to the Gorge in my lifetime, it's easily one of tne of the top 10 worst music venues open today.

Check out Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, OH. Sweet acoustics in the pavillion. Scenic and green hill backgrounds. Architecture rules. I just wish the promoters would do a bit more as far as bring talent and utilizing the facility.

What a lame line up. Just like ACL, the first year was the best for Sasquatch. Manu Chao and The Slip are about the only decent acts for all of Saturday, and Sunday's got Ozomatli and Beastie Boys and Spearhead but other than that real, real disappointed. Hornig's Hideout will be the shit this year if SCI plays. Regardless of the line up, where do they get off charging so much money? Wakarusa is $115 for three days of music and camping. This makes Bonnaroo look reasonably priced too. What a joke of a festival.

Breaking news...Horning's Hideout has just resolved their legal difficulties and have been approved as a concert and camping venue. It's back on! My favorite venue in the world! Ten miles from my house to boot! :D

/of course with all the proper authorities. The wild west, lawless days are over. Oh well.

As an Austinite, I have to recommend three FANTASTIC local bands:

Ghostland Observatory- think Daft Punk crossed with Zeppelin crossed with the White Stripes and a front man with the presence of Prince, Freddie Mercury, and Robert Plant combined

The Black Angels- badass psych rock, droning guitars, dark velvet underground sound. the tops!!

Spoon- most well known of the three

...with that said, the Beasties instrumental show will be f*cking ill

Gorge is def not the worst venue, though the last time I was there was summer of 2003. You think it sucks go to the First Midwest Bank Ampitheater (used to be the World, in Tinley Park IL), or the Tweeter in Camden NJ and tell me those two spots are better than the Gorge.

Lame line up??

Bjork is using the reactable in her set, the Slip are a timeless band while being timely and tiiight, Ozomatli and Manu Chao? Neko Case is even playing. Jambands can be good but they're not world players for a reason. The crowd may be lame but the music doesn't wash out - critical acclaim takes an ability to criticize and a lot of 'Jambands' need to have more supportive criticism and discussion to reach the level that acts like the Arcade Fire and Bjork have while working out dynamics and communication.

Every hyped band should be able to write and record an album as well as jam, and it's hard to do that right without sounding wanky or boring. None of these acts are lacking at all. I just hope rock concerts in America are as fun as they can be in Canada.
