The Police Confirm Grammy Reunion Performance

The Police
After much speculation, The Police, (Stewart Copeland, Andy Summers, Sting) have confirmed plans to reunite as the opening band for the 49th annual Grammy Awards on February 11 in Los Angeles. The legendary trio has not performed since its 2003 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Although no further dates have been announced, the Grammy gig is expected to be the first of many shows taking the band around the world.

While not the biggest fan of Rock 'n Roll reunions, these guys are each still at the height of their talents. Funny, they must've forgotten how much they all hated each other. Would love to catch some of the Synchronicity material live, however. I'll apply for the loan now!

I'm insanely excited about this. This was one band that always changed the way I thought about rock music...

So are we thinking medley of the hits or one song straight through?

I swear I was watching the Synchronicity Live DVD from the Omni in 83' this past Friday and I seriously said to my girlfriend, wouldn't it be rad if they got back together and did a tour. Don't miss these guys!! I predict a Roxanne opener for the Grammy's, this is the 30th anniversary I think.

SICK!SICK!SICK!SICK!SICK!

I dismissed the Police as a crappy pop act for a long time untill i got my hands on a bootleg recording of them playing live at the Hatfeild Polytechnec Shcool in '77. it is some of the hottest shit i have ever heard! the way they fused jamacan and punk groves and the heat and intensity they brought to the music moment to moment on the tape is unbelivable! even the songs that became hits were smoking hot!

whoever made this happen needs to be nominated for a nobel peace prize. how did this come about? any one got the scoop?

Apparently has something to do with this year marking their 30 year anniversary. Rumors have it that they are practicing in North Shore, B.C.

Hmm...I agree with glassworks...I hope Oysterhead does play..
But then how am I supposed to decide between 10klf and Roo? I was at Bonnaroo last year and Oysterhead was great, just fantastic.

But, if the Cheese is playing a show at 10k then that's the place to be before they break up

Best reunion news ever! I think this is different than other "reunion tours" in that it is probably not motivated by money.Sting makes like $6000 a week in royalties from "Every Breath You Take".
Sting opened for the Grateful Dead in about 1986 and he definately knows how to jam. This might be enough to get me back to B'Roo.

I'd love to check out this show, hopefully tickets won't be $100 for nosebleed seats...

But yeah, Cream and The Experience are on a whole different level as far as power trios go.

odd and somehow sad that no matter the generation of the band in question, these reunions seem to dredge up a whole 'new' slew of fans---maybe that's why they keep happening?...anyway Grammys are now such a Hollywood show, the melodrama that became the Police (or vice-versa) is all too appropriate...or to put it simplyL F%&& 'em!

Such a bold statement dovetail! Why hate on todays generation? Much love for the five O! You should be glad that our generation appreciates such tunes. Shows that there is hope for the future! Booyaah!

Oh yeah, this is fuckin' awesome news!!! Now lets just get them on the road with Talking Heads & Cream & I might just have to chew off my own arm in celebration!

Technically Mountain was a quartet in their prime. Still one of the baddest bands of all time IMHO. Leslie West can still whail.

Hey stuhooper, it's hard to make a statement on who is the best anything especially on this site, but if you are talking trios, what about PRIMUS!!!

EVILFUNK,
I could be wrong, but I think that show you are talking about is the one they keep showing on VH1 as part of the BBC Crown Jewels (or something like that) series. It is definitely an early era Police concert. Check it out, people, if you haven't watched it yet. It has been on alot lately.

i know that my opinion will not be popular, but i agree with N.W.A.....f@#k tha police. i've never been a fan of these guys. yea, i know that sting can thump his bass, and stewart is a damn talented drummer, and the guitar guy (whoever he is) can play a nice little solo....but the whole punk-rock lite meets cheesy new-wave vibe just doesn't do it for me. if there's one reunion from that era that i could get behind it's the talking heads. oh yea, stings solo stuff is garbage (including desert rose).

Police at bonnaroo that would be ok Talking Heads at bonnaroo would be a dream come ture. Sting great bass player but solo artist i'll put it as one of the guys in ween said about the string cheese incident his music sounds like stale farts blowing in the wind

Ween said that about SCI? Funny assertion from a band that pulls a large chunk of it's fan base from the jam scene.

What ever happened to "Don't Shit Where You Eat?" Oh yeah....just another senseless Ween song.

im sticking to my comment. im very aware of how many great trio's there have been (primus is a good call). u can throw cream out the window though, just 3 white brits trying imitate southern blues. clapton plays more covers than panic anyway. the police created amazing original music as a trio in an era when cheap, shitty music was the norm. its pretty cool that no one has challenged that The Band of Gypsies is probably the best ever.
