moe. :: 01.25 :: Colorado
A new album, a new tour, might as well begin the year in the Rocky Mountains. Easing into 2007, moe. played three nights in Colorado at The Fox, The Gothic, and The Fillmore. The Fox, a big name but a small venue, always brings back artists that have outgrown it. The show was (not surprisingly) instantly sold out and every inch of the hall was occupied.

The night was a good mix of new tunes and old favorites. "Y.O.Y." into "George" began the night, but it was "Stranger Than Fiction" that got the crowd singing and moving. Sound doesn't get much better than the Fox, with bass bouncing off the walls and speakers right in your face, there are few places that compare. The stage was extended for moe., peeling the curtains away and giving the band a little extra room to work.

Rob Derhak :: 01.25 :: Colorado
With the momentum of their new album, The Conch, and the excitement of that first show of a big tour, moe. was pushing hard, playing like they had circled this date on the calendar months before. "It's good to be back, especially here at the Fox Theatre," bassist Rob Derhak said. Guitarist and vocalist Al Schnier added, "This place has a special smell to it." "Kyle's Song" incorporated crowd clapping, and an extended jam brought on more dancing by the very sweaty crowd. A segue into "The Road" would do it for the first set and the audience filtered out to 13th St. to cool off in the winter air.

"This is the second phase of the moe.-volution," said guitarist/vocalist Chuck Garvey at the start of the second set, which turned out to be one long jam without a single break between songs. "This is the first night of Steve Young being back," referencing their longtime front-of-house soundman who recently returned after time away this past year. "Moth" exploded into a frenzy. During the bridge in "Moth" the band stopped while Al sang the children's song "Itsy Bitsy Spider." With Rob moving to upright electric bass, Al to acoustic guitar and eventually to keys and synth, moe. segued into "Shoot First." "Recreational Chemistry" segued into "Blue Jeans Pizza" which had the best jam of the night with Chuck ripping guitar and percussionist Jim Loughlin adding an extra bass to the mix.

Al Schnier :: 01.25
The encore opened with an abbreviated version of Little Feat's "Willin'," its first appearance at a moe. show since May, 1999. A surprising "Kids" closer included excellent mallet work by Jim. Despite the dehydration and exhaustion of the crowd, it was left wanting more. Fortunately two more nights in Colorado were to follow.

I absolutely love "The Road" both in live settings and on The Conch. Its deserves a place as both set closers and encores in the setlist, as the tune's instrumental climax is almost frightening. moe. at Langerado.......
ps. headylife.com is about to launch!!!!!!! - ridiculous site!

looking forward to 2/7 Buffalo --- "HOmetown Throwdown!"

They can resume their final date from the blizzarded out October run last year...this time w/ new material from "The Conch" and also this time with a healthy Al minus no wrist orthotic holding him back from ripping up the gee-tar! Though he did spank a pretty mean tamborine! go moe. w/ new material!

Auspicious begins to the tour. Lovin' The Conch, coincedentally just re-read the Lord of the Flies...Keep the conch in the hands of Ralph and Piggy, don't let Jack Merridew have it (W. Bush)...The entire disc is very good, The Pit is the track that has blown me away initially. What a strong follow up to Wormwood, which for me still stands up as one of the best jam band albums released in the past few years. Hopefully they'll come on back to NYC in the spring...Central Park Summer Stage again? Peakin' at the Beacon? It's all good. To all yawll on tour, LIVE IT UP! and enjoy the shows.

thank god I am not the only one that thinks MOE is just average. (cuttyfives,chaloupka)
Dang it, I have listened to Warts and All, The Conch, wormwood, Dither, cripes, do I have to get eballed out to hear the inner ping?? what gives? Schnier can solo his ass off, and it has no magic, it moves me in no way. I find myself bored with the majority of MOE music. Rebubula on warts and all was quite the heated number, but so far, its all I have heard from them that makes me sit up and pay attention. there are so many other bands I rather spend money to see. Hey I love music and I am not a hater, I just wanted to give my 2cents. Watch Tea Leaf Green upstage MOE at the Tabernacle!!! hahahahaaaaa.. peace ya;ll

Moe is a quality band. Might not be your cup of tea (so to speak milesgone) but their solos and jams go off way better than any of the string cheese shows I ever went to. That's my opinion. Different strokes for different folks. Anyone going to be at the Moe shows in Japan? My friends and I have a house near Yokohama.

If you don't like the band why are you here? Do I come on the the Justin Timberlake page and fill it up with bulls**t so people have to search to find the useful posts.

Anyhow- when is someone going to get this show up on archive.org so I can actually listen to it?

I've been a moe. fan for a while, and was pleased to hear they chose 3 shows in Colorado to debut their new album. Unfortunately missed this Fox show, but caught the next two nights, at the medium sized Gothic and the 3,000 cap. Fillmore, both amazing shows, the best moe. I've ever had the pleasure of witnessing.

The Gothic was packed to the gills, as I'm sure the Fox was, but we on the floor just seemed to sway and dance as one happy organism. Rob brought out his upright for a sweet, ominous segue into a long, creative "meat".

The Fillmore show was outstanding as well, with Rob bringing out the "Clockwork Orange" hat again for some serious jamming. Get ready for some serious music on this tour.

Hey "moth17": All 3 Colorado shows are still up on www.cotapers.org, but if you don't do bittorrent, just drop me a line and I could burn the show(s) for you. (Hopefully the Fox show will get up on Archive, but unfortunately the other two nights in CO from cotapers.org are probably too bassy in quality for Archive.

moe. and UM are both winners in my book. I think you'd be hard pressed to find someone who didn't think that the guys from UM are all better musicians than those from moe., but moe. still rocks my socks off. I love High and Congress and the conch, seeing them in Boston tomorrow night! It doesn't get any better than moe. and cuttyfives, you're a douche

I caught moe. in DC last night, enjoyed the show, but was disappointed that they pulled the same series of segues they did last time they hit DC... 2nd set they ditched kids, only to segue to the finish after the encore. Anyways, literally half of the set last night was played on 1/31, which is again, about half of the setlist to the Fox theater. I consider myself a moe.ron, but what gives with the lack of imagination recently?

moe. is great, but that show was ruined for me due to the fact that the fox had us stuffed in there like sardines... seriously, id rather them sell half the amount of tickets for double the price, cuz even if i wasnt lucky enough to get one id know that whoever did at least got to DANCE!

I go in and out of straight-up moe. binges, and right now I'm kind of out (even though their 'roo '06 show was my last and favorite from the band), but I'll be catching them at Langerado between Bela Fleck and STS9, so I'm ready to catch the groove again. Stoked to hear their new material, if it even holds a candle to Wormwood.
