These shows will be awesome. I did the gigs (all 5) in 03', and they were off the hook! The blizzard helped to intoxicate the mood of the band as well. That year they brought out Kruetzman for Sweet Melinda>San Jose and again in the 3rd set for a crzy drums>IKUR !! These shows will prove to be historic for sure. I'd love to go. I will try like hellto, thats for sure !!

I just got done working with Zilla, Kyle and Honkytonk Homeslice at Ski Jam.

They all got together at the end of Zilla's (awesome) set and look like they wee having the time of their life.

Had the chance to hang out most of the week ... I am no judge on the matter, or have much to compare to from the past ... but they really seemed happy with their side projects that may become the main project in their life ... and that is a beautiful thing.

Winter C should be great!

If not i have this wierd hunch that their last show will be at redrocks... if thats the case ill spend the big money and fly down there for that. If not oh well their side projects are great as well ill just have to look forward to that.

good hunch red plate. they have already said that red rocks will be their last run. I saw them at the fox in ATL a few weeks ago right after they announced billy was leaving and they are on fire right now. I highly recommend catching any of these few remaining shows. I know I am going to make the red rocks trip!

okay, im going to put my picks (wishlist) out there:

3/22 w/ Hot Buttered Rum String Band
3/23 w/ the Motet
3/24 w/ Stanton Moore Trio (SM freshly back from J-dam)
3/26 w/ King Crimson (hopefully without a hitch this time)
3/27 w/ Keller Williams Incident (freshly back from J-dam, and possibly a precursor to the future of SCI)

Whatcha think....???

I used to see the cheese back in 2000-2001 live. I think I will save the $1000.00 bucks and just buy the downloads for $50.00. Sad but true ,you never know what you are going to get from these guys nowadays. I will live with my memories of seeing them live for the last time 4/25/01 and 4/26/01 in Louisville and let the rest of you pad their wallets these last few times. All I can say is get all the 1996-2000 shows off the archive you can before they pull some stunt and start selling them for $$$. I can't believe this is what i am saying but for a band who plays about 40-50 shows a year to call it quits is lame. But people develop differences and I guess this is it. I would love the complete technotronic mind melt from Kang,Kyle,Travis and Keith, Turn all the intruments to eleven and distort the hell out of them and make it sound sweet techno and Billy can do the bar circuit in Tennessee or Arkansas or whatever his goals are . Joking of course. But maybe not!!

Roscoe and Fro- Why even bother....just go see Yonder, they are so much more talented and less Pretentious than the Cheese guys, they are more psychedelic with minimal amplification than sci is when they turn it up to 11. Please do not infiltrate the YMSB scene with the smoke and mirrors which is SCI.

All you cheese haters out there hear me loud and proud. GO F*&^ your self. They WERE THE BEST BACK IN THE DAYS, and THEY ARE STILL DOPe. Yonder Mountain string band Better than cheese??? HAHAHAH you are soo stupid. YMSB is good but not that good. I would not fly into CO just to see YMSB play a three day run, even if they were on the verge of breaking up. Sorry but I would like a Drum and a Keyboard with my tunes Ty.
String Cheese is one of the most incredible jam bands and we all know where there stand on the list GD,PHISH,SCI and no one can contest that. Soon these bands who shaped the scene are going to be gone (until trey gets his shit together and decides its time for another tour).
So please just admit that they are still funky, and they still make you dance like no other music does. the only goo dhting to come out of the breakup is that I'll finally see kyle and co. on the road. ( And I CANT WAIT FOR A MKANG AND FRIENDS)

What's so bad about e? Cheese is great music to groove on when you are on a good e trip. But I have enjoyed them just as much, maybe even more, just having a few beers and maybe smoking some kind herbage.

The reason so many people are on e at cheese shows is that there is a GREAT vibe at their shows. And the music is high energy and eclectic. I love YMSB as well, but their music is not as diverse or as loud.

Don't hate on cheese because of a few nerdy drug addicts. Take a killer hit of e, go to one of the last cheese shows, and then tell me you don't like them.

I will miss you boys! I hope there are some killer side projects as a result of all this.

YMSB is one h3ll of a band. There no Cheese. No one can do it and no one will ever be able to do it like cheese. Never will the combination of bluegrass, electronic jam be fused together into a funky blast of euphoria. Everyone knows the DEAD were first, PHISH was second, and CHeESe is right behind them. Cheese is Cheese the rest is just music. and furthermore X is one hell of a drug. So dont talk smack about Cheese or X ever again.

As for the x thing, it is a fake psychedelic. It actually is not a psychedelic at all. It is an amphetamine. Whereas LSD heightens all of your reality, ecstacy provides a false sense of a reality which does not exist. Furthermore, ecstasy causes permanent Dain Bramage, rots teeth, and has caused many people to get busted because they are either too trusting or too stupid to know what is going on around them......If you need ecstacy to enjoy a band. it says a lot about them.
As for comparing them to the Dead, Lmao!!

Phish and SCI don't belong anywhere near the GD on any list. Yonder is a bunch of spoiled little chicago kids attempting to play bluegrass. Cheese is a joke, don't even have to go into that. And if you can't mention the name of a band without sparking a debate on which drugs are best for their shows, that band sucks. Anyone ever heard of Widespread Panic? WSP is a decent band. I don't hate them or anything. But they are no Cheese. The vibe at their shows is kind of weak as well. The people at their shows are cool, but the energy of their music is not all that. Maybe I don't get it because I am not from the south.

Anyone who says that WSP is better than Cheese is just plain wrong. And don't worry, WSP is the next band to give up. They are already old, and won't last much longer. It's time for a new wave of young people to dominate the music scene. I am looking forward to good things!

But I will miss Cheese. I hope the do many reunions. An annual run of incidents would be ideal.

Broesau Fri 1/19/2007 01:14PM

Spoken like true cheesy kids. A quick history lesson on my hometown, Denver:
THe grateful dead sold out red rocks every time they played there. Phish sold it out in '96 to the point they were never allowed back. Panic sells THREE SHOWS out every summer, in about five minuts. And cheese, well, cheese can even sell out a single show there, and THEY ARE FROM Colorado!
If you think panic is on their way out, you don't know shit about 'em. They will be around another 15 to 20, mark my words.
The only people who like cheese are those too young to have known about the dead or phish, or too stupid to find out about panic by now. And if you can't feel the energy at a panic show, you don't have a pulse, I don't care if you're from the deep south or the north pole.
The next dude I see anywhere spinning a friggin hula hoop is gonna get smacked.

Denverguy = typical closed minded idiot. "If you don't like what I like, you're dumb!" "If you listen to bands I'm not into, you must be 19 and never heard of other music!"

I don't really care if you like SCI or not, really I'd rather see them never sell out a show EVER than attract simple minded, arrogant fools to their shows. I don't like WSP all that much (don't dislike them, just not my favorite), but you don't see me making an effort to go to every Widespread article to tell everyone about it like an ass. If you don't like SCI, that's fine, you are more than entitled to your musical taste and I wouldn't dream of trying to convince you otherwise. But save all the "if you don't agree with me, you're a moron" crap, please.

Anyway, obviously people disagree with you, and the only one here displaying any real immaturity is yourself.

denverguy: you are a funny cat. Widespread should have called it good when Micheal died. You will feel the same way cheese fans are feeling when WSP breaks up. Even if cheese doesn't sold out ( which they do most the time, and will for this three day run ) it gives more room to dance for true fans.

"String Cheese is one of the most incredible jam bands and we all know where there stand on the list GD,PHISH,SCI and no one can contest that."

Whaaaa....???? SCI mentioned in the same breath as the Dead is ludicrous, and to some extent with Phish as well. And what about the ABB? I've seen the ABB/SCI double bills and SCI (who are very talented) come off like a garage band when compared to the slaying combo of Haynes/Trucks and the ABB top-notch percussion section.

SCI is good, but a little perspective, please.

Depends on what era of the dead you are talking about. Personally, the only thing for me that GD and SCI have in common is that they play a few of the same songs and they play extended jams.

As far as which is better, which is worse? It depends on the time period. I am not a big fan of The Grateful Dead in the 90's. I went to several of those shows and they didn't sound good, at least in comparison to their earlier work. The vocals during that time were, in my opinion, sometimes unlistenable. For me, every single SCI show I've ever been to sounds better than the best sounding Grateful Dead show I ever went to in the 90's. But that's just me. 70's are a different story, though, and I especially love the Dead's years between '76-'79. And I never really got into Phish that much.

What do I think? I don't think comparing the pioneers to the perfectionists is a fair comparison. I think SCI does some things better than GD did, and I think a lot of the Dead's earlier jams were better than most of what SCI has produced, with some exceptions.

Red rocks will not be there last shows. They will announce a very short summer tour and Red rocks will be in the mix. Now back to there last shows. Camp Zoe in MO is more than likely going to be the place where Cheese will play there last (3) shows. Zilla and Honkytonk played shows there after summer camp this past summer and enjoyed the scence and campsite. (By the way this is all coming from the owner of camp Zoe which I have recently talked too at one of his shows in MO, he plays for The Schwag). Camp zoe started as a place where The Schwag would play, which is a grateful dead tribute band in MO, and now is becoming a Music Festival with bands such as Keller Williams, Particle, Michael Franti, and George Clinton and the Patrliament Funkadelics all making appearences. Again I'm not certain and don't want to gaurentee anything, but I would say 80% sure. And I hope everyone knows that this is NOT there LAST shows ever. On their website it said SCI has no plans after summer 2007, so its more like a hiatus unitill Billy can figure out a way to have more input with their new Trance style music(which i thought was pretty damn sweet myself). Thanks guys

I hope you are right about cheese not totally calling it quits "lv cheese", that would be great. A hiatus might be good for them, but judging by what happened with Phish, it may not mean that they will come back for long, or at all. But we can all hope...

As far as "denverguy", jesus dude...you are the exact reason that the WSP scene isn't all that. Face it man, they just aren't that great. They may sell out shows, but so does Britney Spears. Selling out shows is not the main indicator of how great a band is.

I wish nothing but the best for WSP and their fans, but get over yourselves. SCI kicks serious ass, especially in relation to SCI.

I agree with "sizlunt" about their comparison with GD. The 90's shows were lacking, while SCI is still in their prime. However, I also love(d) Phish, and in my opinion they have reached a higher level than even SCI in many ways, but I think it is because they worked hard and kept it going for so long. I wish SCI would keep it together and see how much higher they could take their music. I know they have the potential. Let's just hope they do...

joeye rock rock on.. I agree with just about everything u said totally.. and also another thing about all denverguy critizing everyone talkin about drugs.. well yes its a little childish but people go to shows for different reasons, Im sure theres a couple of WSP fans eating face also, hes prob some dumb ass who came on here to talk shit cause he had nothing better to do with his life.. its good he read all the comments though before he typed his bullshit message.. it shows he can read..
I agree with WSP, good music and all but its got nothing on SCI.. I started liking Hip hop music and rap and stuff when I grew up but it all changed when I watched my first cheez show.. Not say rap and hip hop is bad, but looking at how these guys would jam away for hours is amazin.

Another thing, Ive seen Sci and Phish and I have to say hands down SCI blows Phish out of the water.. I dont even like half the jams in alot of Phish live shows, they really dont keep a jam going like SCI, its obvious and if you dont see it, you really dont listen to the music it usually Trey searching for it and everyone else cathcin up, but totally agree that Trey is prob one of the best guitarist of our time, In regards to GD, hey GD took over the culture of that time and SCI obviously cant do that now, Now that everyone listens to all that shit they play out fo the radio and watch way more TV then any other country, So in regards to powerful bands.. handsdown GD plus GD does have better songs BUT they dont have Michael Kang who could prob play more instruments then the Greatful Dead put together plus I listen to alot of GD songs on archive great songs, beautiful songs but hey I never saw them live, Ive seen SCI live every show being the best one ever cause it was the last time I saw them.. That itself makes them in my opinion the best band ever!!!!

Ok, I've said it before and I guess I'll have to say it again.....Diehard WSP really should lay off other bands. You love them, we know, that's great.... but we also know that WSP fans typically tend to be drunk tone deaf frat guys and the chicks that hang with drunk tone deaf frat guys....it's true. I've seen em' enough to know that I'll see SCI, UM, Moe, Kimock etc. long before I'd see the Spread again. It all just sounds like the same damn song guys. If you happen to REALLY like that song, then I guess it works for you. There are WSP fans, and then there's everybody else.

Just to put this in perspective....In 20 years people will still be listening to the Grateful Dead on a regular basis....Some people may even still listen to Phish......But there is no way in hell that anyone will be listening to SCI 20 years from now...I doubt anyone will even be discussing them at that point.

But you kids Sure are pretty funny.

I wish you would explain why nobody will be listening to cheese in 20 years... Its MUSIC!!! If its good to even one person, it lives. The Sex Pistols music still lives. Just cuz you don't like it dosent mean it will dissapear off the face of the earth...
Ya think people will be listening to Yonder in 20 years?? (Of course you do)

"marcsmall1", you could not be more wrong about SCI. Not only will they be just as remembered as Phish, but they may even still be doing reunion tours. Look at all the 70's bands that come back over and over, like the Eagles or Pink Floyd (not to compare SCI to them).

The boys in SCI are not old. They have long lives ahead of them, hopefully longer since they are slowing it down. So, not only will SCI music live forever, but they will be remembered as one of the best live bands from the late 90's and early 00's.

Now go away and hang out with "denverguy" on some other article where you actually might have something reasonable to say.

More Cheese Please!!!

too bad it sold out. prob one of the reason for Nershi leaving is b/c everyone in their mind is always f$$ked up at a cheese show. try going to a show sober and enjoying it, most people cant enjoy a show sober...lets get f$$ked and pay for a ticket and not even really listen to the music that is really being played...why not go to a shitty rave and save someone a ticket that really go's to a shows to listen to the music play and really cares for the music...i am tried of the drug scene at shows.. its getting ridiculus...thats my 2cents, take it or leave it

I think denverguy needs a hula hoop. and for all those who do take drugs at sci shows it's not about tuning out it's about tuning in. if they aren't tuning you in then you are on the wrong stuff or you were dumb enough to take too much. I don't do drugs anymore but let me say this. educate yourself, do it with friends you like, take the same amount at the same time and have a plan not to drive anywhere. Oh yeah, obnoxous or mean people should realize that it doesn't matter if your high or not nice people don't like you.

Everyone is comparing apples to oranges to bananas here. All the bands have their own thing and different people like different things. I'm a big Cheese fan. Probably because I like to dance(I mean really get my groove on), enjoy some real percussion and come on, how about the SCI family, they are some of the kindest people out there. See you in Colorado with my hula hoop! Also, to those of you who don't like Cheese why are you reading this?

(hey "SCI4ever" - Friday and Saturday are sold out)
