Indeed, Jimmy is sounding like a natural fit. I saw/heard the forth date on their previous tour, in Wallingford CT, and he just had a fluidity that GM did not have. Granted Keane provided quite a bit of filler guitar, but Hearing just seemed to fit right in. And so it sounds on the live recordings I've heard. All that said, I did like GM with Panic. I like the Ball CD far more than the Earth To America CD. Counting Train Cars should have been a massive radio hit. Now I know, Panic is not about Radio hits, and ETA is still growing on me. And while I do think that Jimmy is a much more natural fit with the bands sound, I’m not one to have bashed the whole GM era of Panic. Since Albany is the closest date this round, I'll make the run. Look forward to hearing how Herring has progressed.

Yeah it's definitely Carbondale, Illinois not Indiana, lol, anyway I totally agree with you cliffcliffordjr. While I haven't seen the boys with Jimmy yet, all of the live stuff sounds amazing, I am listening to the Vegoose performance from this past October and it sounds sooo good! I think George totally rocked and he always looked like he was having so much fun up there. He was put into a very interesting situation, when everyone thought that the band was done. I still to this day wonder what happened for him to bail out mid-tour! It's good to see that Jimmy is gonna stick around, for a while anyway. Jimmy Herring has popped up in all 3 of my favorite bands lineups....Allman Brother (2000 filling in when Dickey Betts left) The Dead (2004 tour) and now Panic....crazy!

Whats up with not coming home? They do play around Ga like they ment to do it. I know they play Ga a lot, but it would seem like they want to go through Ga just as a travel decision, i guess they are sick of us after 6 shows during winter tour. I really could care less, Widespread doesn't do it for me like they should be able to. I get to a certain place and they just dwindle, and they should be more aggressive with Jimmy on guitar, I guess I'm too much of a Dead Head with standards too high for Panic, or maybe I'm just partial. I'll prob go see them in Ashville, cause that is the raddest town on this coast.

I dont think they are the worste ever, Hambone, but probably the most boring. I know they take breaks and play different songs, but it kind of sounds like one continuouse song through the whole show except during the covers. I know Jimmy's style of play and its not his fault its just a lack of leadership. I keep waiting for someone to just take control over the sound and take it in a direction. I guess I'm just too big of a Dead and Mule fan, and I expect to much of panic. The truth is if JB were to ever take a good shit his carrer would be over. Guess I just got Dead in my head, and I couldnt be more Grateful for the quality of a beautifully written song that when performed right, can make you dissapear to another world and change a life. They dont make them like they use to.

"Sounds like one continous song through the whole show" maybe for some people it does, but thats just your opinion. The same same thing can be said about any band/genre. Back in high school (93-96) my friends who weren't into the Dead would always use that line and then I would throw it back at them about their Seatle grunge bands. I'm not a Garth Brooks fan but I'm sure if I went to a Garth Brooks concert It would all sound like one continous song to me, that doesn't mean his fans don't get the same enjoyment from the show that I get when I go see I band I like. Also, If you don't like Panic then why did you even read this article in the first place.

Great band...great musicians...but I just don't like 'em. Seen them live, heard their songs, they just don't do it for me. To say they SUCK is just ignoramus stupidious! I heard that NYE in Hotlanta was fantastic...Much repect for Herring, though I have to agree w/ Native 51, much like his input with The Dead and Phil & Friends, the leadership is rarely there and when it is it's like they all realize it and then it's no longer felt; rather safe and grounded.

If you are gonna try and argue that those are covers, listen to the "you should be glad" from the MGM. They aren't holding him back, they are just lettin' him get loose. all of you haters out there, just need to realize that the Panic has solidified their place in rock n roll history as one of the most underrated bands, right up there next to the band. and i you love the mule so much why don't you wait until Warren decides to hop on stage w/ the boys and mr. herring, then maybe you'll quit being so damn stubborn. You obviously don't know what you're talking about if you think Walnut Creek isn't sketchy. Thats the problem with Panic, you try to put them up there with the best bands ever and thats a joke. Its alright to think they're good but to say they are the best band touring when they have just changed their line-up AGAIN is crazy. Jimmy Hearing while great isn't going to step in and have the same chemistry as some of these bands that haven't changed a thing in years. You can try to argue that but you're wrong and you obviosuly know nothing about the technicalities of music and you've probaly never picked an insturment up yourself or you wouldn't be talking.

WHATS UP EVERYBODY. WHAT THE HELL IS ALL THE NEGATIVE COMMENTS FOR. IF YOU DON'T KNOW IT BY NOW PANIC IS THE BEST NON-STOP TOURING BAND OUT. NO OTHER BAND TOURS AS MUCH AND BRINGS IT AS HARD AS THEY DO ON A NIGHTLY BASIS. IF YOU HAVEN'T HAD THE CHANCE TO SEE THEM WITH JIMMY ON LEAD THEN YOU ARE MISSING OUT. JIMMY HAS BROUGHT NEW LIFE TO THE BAND AND HE IS A MUSICAL GENIUS. THE BEST SHOWS OF THE PAST YEAR WHERE DEFINATELY BIRMINGHAM, HALLOWEEN, AND THE NIGHT BEFORE NEW YEARS ON JIMMY'S BIRTHDAY. THE MACON SHOW WAS VERY INTIMATE AND NASHVILLE THE MUSIC WAS INSANE. NON STOP PLAYING FOR THE ENTIRE FIRST SET. HOPEFULLY THEY WILL BE PLAYING BONARROO THIS YEAR. HEADLINING OR LATE NIGHT WOULD BE GREAT. IF NOT I MIGHT HAVE TO GO TO LANGERADO BUT I WILL NOT BE GOING TO WAKARUSA(COP FEST). SEE ERERYONE OUT ON TOUR..

you obviosuly know nothing about the technicalities of music and you've probaly never picked an insturment up yourself or you wouldn't be talking. Thats funny coming from someone that spent new years listening to a bunch of computerized rave shit high on an ounce of molly spinning fucking glowsticks

to all the people who react to the haters: they are getting the best of you, their only goal is to piss poeple off on message boards and laugh at the reaction they get. it is pretty funny actually. you know they will be at the shows not daring to speak words of hatred while not hiding behind a key board and monitor. just laugh, don't get your panties all in a wad or your falling right in their plan

I love reading the comments that call people haters then immediately go into a hissy about how the band the hater mentioned is the band that really sucks. Does hating a hater balance out, or is it just the same thing. most of the jam bands and fans get spun, I have been to STS9, bisco, panic, grateful dead (and all of the dead family cover bands too), phish, cheese and even non "jam" shows where guess what, people are getting high! The shit is all the same and you people are kidding yourselves if you think one scene is cleaner or more kind than another. It is always the same, and the drugs are pervasive. People on here are babies....saying things like "at least I wasn't spun out on a gram of molly at some stupid rave show" Congratulations tool bags for even further perpetuating a contest vibe that pervades this weak ass and dying "jam" scene. Nobody's opinion's qualify as facts, therefore are not arguable points. thanks for the entertainment, oh yes and I forgot, I am a fan of a better band than you favorite band. I likes em all, cause variety is the most fun. Now I am going to phantasy tour to badmouth foreigner.

I commute to and fro durham nc to raleigh nc on my bike ( about 30 miles round trip everyday to keep from having my lunch taken from me. But if no one get the message out no one will care. And as for seeing panic again, you really, really, really should go see them now. Ive been around panic for quite some time and new years was off the scale. Best I've ever seen.

exactly, all negative comments are for a reaction, to get people all pissy and fired up over nothing at all. the 'haters' have never even seen WSP. it's the absolute truth, otherwiese they wouldn't say such negative things about the band. they want you to cave into their pathetic interweb lives...nothing better to do. it takes about 2 minutes to write a stupid post. easy as pie.
I've seen and enjoyed PANIC several times, even with GM, and i'm not about to quit. they really ARE the hottest touring act out there. And i really don't care what anyone has to say about that.
Peace and love live WSP!!!!!!!

Some people love Panic (like me). Some people hate Panic. Some people couldn't give a rats behind either way. If you are busy doing your own thing and following your own muse, then it won't affect you in any way when some pathetic person goes out of their way to antagonize you. I mean, I'm honestly glad that I don't have worry about running into them at a show. The last thing we need are more people with the mentality of a twelve-year-old and a chip on their shoulder running around at Panic shows. Be glad.

Seems to me Panic's a kind of get it or don't get it thing. There's definately Panic shows where they play for the Spreadheads and will play a lot of classics that may all just sound like the same southern rock\blues tunes to outsiders, but if you love the band, listen to the lyrics, follow each note, they won't sound so similar anymore. ALso, some shows Panic just flat busts it out and you'd have to have a real personal bias to not dig it. Listen to a song like Greta and then a song like Pigeons and then a song like This Part of Town and then tell me all the songs sound the same. I think it just requires listening closer cuz' they generally use a very generic, electric rock n' roll arrangement. Just because the instruments don't have a unique\electronic\funky\psychadelic tone and sound standard doesn't mean the music they play is standard issue or bland. Just some shows this second generation spreadhead might suggest to you guys if you're wondering why everyone loves em':

*Either of the two B-Roo '05 shows
*Madison 9-30-05
*Chicago Theatre Run from April '05
*Vegoose from this year

Also, most shows from when Mikey was around (you can d-load em at nugs.net) are pretty amazing stuff.

Alright, got me some dates close to home. I would love to take my vacation and head up to Louisville then head down south to Wanee Fest with the Brothers and then back up to K-town for two more nites of Panic. And to Native51, why would Herring join a band that he sooooo much better than? Would he really play in a band that holds him back? Come on! Don't insult Jimmy's smarts like that bro. I watched the 02 'Roo DVD last nite, and man, if you think they're repetitive or mudane just watch that performance with Dottie Peoples and the Peoples Choice Chior doing "Tall Boy" that stuff moves your soul to dance. GOOD STUFF!

as far as the "special surprise dates" go, i've been hearing RUMORS from folks that have ties to the band and Outformation that they're going to do a three nite run(of course dumbass) at the Church of Music.....The Ryman Auditorium here in Music City USA Nashville, TN! if this is true i'll be happier than a kid on Christmas morning, being that i live in the woods right outside of Nashville, all ya'll welcome down here now, ya hear!

I have no interest in the negative loser comments here.
My first show was in 1989!!! at the Ga theater. My last Mikey show was bonnaroo with steve winwood. This band has created their own sound and style. Mikey was great, George is good too (to me) and Herring pushes them farther than they had ever dreamed of going. WIDESPREAD PANIC is a magical thing.
it also has a DARK SIDE, this is the amazing appeal for me.

I do think the hattred has gotten out of control. Dont leave a comment that just hates on a band, try to give your oppinion in a way that can be used as constructive criticism or what you thought they lacked in previouse shows. I do believe Jimmy is the best thing to happen to Panic since the loss of Houser, but he is not bringing the Jimmy feeling to the stage, instead he is molding his playing around their style. Most panic fans would be blown away if they heard Jimmy doing his own thing. This may be due to his short time with the band and hopefully he will find his comfort zone with their material which will allow for his creative style to shine through. This is when he will take control on stage and fill in the gap that is the only place they lack, musical leadership on stage. Other than that I hope the crowd will start to mature and realize how to control themselves durring a show. Getting so trashed where you dont realize the majic that is happenning on stage is unexceptable, dont get me wrong i love to get trashed as well, but I know my limits. many younger kids havnt experienced enough to know when to call it quits and that reflects poorly on your fellow fans.

Get off your high horse Native51, and I hope this was just written poorly and you didn't mean this as you wrote it: "I do believe Jimmy is the best thing to happen to Panic since the loss of Houser". Are you saying Mikey's passing was a good thing, or are you saying best thing since Mikey? I think and hope it's the latter. Other than that don't be such a snotty little music snob, your opinion isn't the ruling authority. besides i can't take anyone who listens to 311 seriously, now that's funny, 311=lameness.

I love how some of "us" use this web site to discuss the parking lot drug scene and where it is most sketchy, i.e. most regulated with security. Who tf cares where a band happens to play on April 20? It is pretty sad that this is what we associate with some of our favorite bands, and given a forum for discussion of the band's music, we choose to sound off about whether we can fishbowl our cars without getting caught. Anyways, I am all for live music and a band that has kept it up for years and years without missing a beat. Wish they would spread their touring radius a little more though. Enjoy...

The family and the band both emit positive vibes like no other! If you could bottle the energy at a panic show and sell it all other drugs would be inferior to it! Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but I am not sure if there are any musically inclined individuals that would trash such tremendous talent! To each his own! Hello to all my panic fans! Hope to see you in the spring!

Being from GA, I obviously dig the shit out of Panic, their style, and their crowd. Yeah some think the music is terrible, uninspiring, and goes nowhere, but thats your own, awesome opinion. If you think WSP is being held down by Herring, or you think they are the worst band in the whole damn country, awesome. But keep it to yourself.

Anyway, back to the main point. No Colorado dates, or anything closer than Missouri? Thats a legit thing to bitch about, Im angry. Just might have to fly home for the Classic run. Unbelieveable they're doing that. ATHENS WILL BE ROCKIN' SO HARD FOR THOSE DATES! Anyone within 10 hours should make the drive. Oh Yeah, Tranceful delite, I know you were in the lot scene in ATL for New Years, so you can't honestly believe that the scene would have been anywhere near as insane without all the Panic fans there.

If you really don't like them then why are you taking the time to talk shit about them on a fucking message board. They may not be your type of music, but give them a fucking break. They work hard and play well according to my standards. Also, they seem to make a lot of people happy because it seems that wsp fans are a very dedicated fanbase. Its not like they are just a one hit wonder band. If you don't like them, fine that is your choice. But don't knock other peoples choice in music just because it doesn't suit you!
