A DEFINITE MOBY
Moby reflects on his new "best of" album
and his not-so-new social activism

Moby
DJ-turned-pop-star Moby has just released a "best of" collection of his electro/techno-styled hits. But aside from his music, Moby's, er, white whale is his work with various political and social causes. He campaigns with MoveOn, helps raise money for progressive politicians, and, as a vegan, considers his commitment to the animal-rights movement closest to his heart. Grist's Sarah van Schagen chats with the mixmaster about simplifying his life, fretting over politics, and more.

It is apparently bad karma to ever voice a dissenting opinion in regards to some of the off the wall choices the editors of jambase.com choose to write about, but fuck it, I don't care anymore...

Moby? Boooooooooo.

Not only Moby, but a best of cd? BOooooooooo.

Ok. That's out of my system. I'll slither back to my cave and await the verbal assaults.

For all those who really went out of there way to say that Moby sucks...Im sorry for you. Jambase is doin a great job keeping people informed about the music that very few lay poeple care about or even know, so cheers to Jambase, and cheers to Moby and his vegan self.

Ok, if you don't like Moby then why would you click on the story in the first place. Did you do it just to hate. I guarentee that all of the verbal abusers are under 24 years old who haven't been around the scene long enough to know how to act. Jambase is an excellent source of all music that happens to focus on the music that most of love. Open your minds instead of your mouths more so that you all dont make yourselves look so dumb and shallow. Why would you even spend time to comment if you don't like a story. Get a life. I'm not a big fan of Moby, but I felt the need to defend him because of the negativity. We don't need this in our scene.

Philipemma speaks the truth...Moby does his own thing and besides one hit song, musically he is underground enough and free form enough to be mentioned here. I could see if it was Rascal Flatts or Dashboard Confessional, then the mainstream has crossed over into the jamscene. But even that could make for an interesting Jammies' collaboration. But unless you are talking "John Hery Bonham, Moby Dick!", don't get all Eminem'd up in this place to the point of calling someone you don't know a dick! As for Hatfieldsbro...nobody listens to techno...um...yeah, ignorance MUST be bliss!

i'm 29 and i've been "around the scence" for years. i did click on this story strictly to hate. i dont know much about his music but whenever i've seen him in interviews he just comes across as an arrogant douche bag, so for that reason i hate him. and i'm pretty sure his music sucks also.

Pauly...you've just given us the most ignorant internet post ever. Thanks.

Moby is amazingly talented and after seeing him live 3 times I can definitely say the man puts on one hell of an entertaining show.

I don't know any Moby music, but I do remember seeing him on MTV Cribs, and the main feature of his tiny house was a Scrabble table in the living room. I thought that was funny because the next guy on the show was Slim Thugg or something, and he had something like 50 Rolls Royces and a grotto-spa thing in his backyard. It's good to see a non-materialistic celebrity.

Why is everyone on jambase so worried that some artist from another genre is going to "crossover" into their precious jam-world? This site routinely carries news about all kinds of different styles of music, but I didn't hear anyone bitching when there were articles on James Brown (RIP) or Burning Spear. The point is that the descriptor 'jam' has no relation to a musical style...it could apply to anyone who improvises, but often it is even more broad than that. I'm not a Moby fan, but I clicked on this post out of curiosity, as you all must have. What's the problem? Is your precious scene getting cluttered? Are you scared that one day you're going to wake up and the whole world is going to be listening to 45 min versions of Astronaut by the Disco Biscuits? Get over yourself, it will never happen. Maybe a site with more close-minded editors is what you're looking for.

whats so ignorant about hating someone for who they are. i was never bashing his music. i'm just saying that whenever i see him on tv in interviews, i want to put a fucking bullet in the tv screen. is that being ignorant? maybe i'm just confused and you can explain my ignorance to me.
