JamBase | San Francisco Go See Live Music!
whatever pays the bills....
I want to party with them. Sick shots Jay.
cool shots. what kind of camera do you shoot with?
nice party favors....too bad the music blows!
you sir need to honestly seek mental help.
Jay - sweet work - So much fun to shoot these guys!Picture 11 is one of a kind - Wayne's smail - the framing - the atmosphere around him-Your location. Excellent picture!
Another thought - in picture 16 the underside of the space ship. I would have loved to see the mirrors shot with a zoom lens to capture the scene underneath.
Listening to the Flaming Lips music is like shoving razor blades down my throat, it hurts really reallly bad.
Good "show" - terrible music. Great Pics, though.
i like the one of wayne holding the ball in the air infront of the screen(?). had you been to the right just a bit that would have been a phenomenal image. looks like you had great access :)as for the music of the flaming lips, i kinda like it. it doesn't do a whole lot for me but i can respect what they do. plus wayne has to be one of the nicest guys in rock n roll.
great pics! wish i coulda been there
Incredible pics!Soft Bulletin, Yoshimi & At War w/ the Mystics are 3 of the best albums to come out in the last decade! Now I can agree that their older stuff is annoying at best but they have come so far over the last 6-7 years. They're one of the few bands that can create a cohesive album. Their albums are pieces of art that are best listened to from start to finish. Listening to their last 3 albums in headphones is sonic bliss! And then they release 5.1 surround sound versions of their albums. Add to that trippy music videos and a balls out stage production and you got a rock band for the ages. Now I'm sure this will piss a lot of people off... but they remind of Pink Floyd. I'm not saying their as talented or as influential but If you look at Pink Floyd's albums it wasn't until Meddle that they started to define their sound. Then they released Dark Side followed by Wish You Were Here which at the time pushed all boundaries of recording & production technology. They're albums went from a collection of psychadelic rock tunes to full out masterpieces.
You forgot about Clouds Taste Metallic.
great pics , man i cant wait to see these guys again. just the coolest show going!
Nice job Jay! The pics make me wish I would have planned a trip to SF over the New Year break.
The Flaming Lips put on some of the best shows ever. Talented artists they are...
"ScIFreak :: 1/11/2007 7:08 AM :: Listening to the Flaming Lips music is like shoving razor blades down my throat, it hurts really reallly bad."That sounds like it would be best.flips > you
word
The first time I saw the Flaming Lips, I had no idea what I was getting to. They honestly put on one of the best shows around. Many bands in the jam circuit attempt to put on a show that is 'audience centered' and 'audience focused', but many fail to meet this aspect. However, the Flaming Lips are dead on. Now for the critics who think the music is terrible. I don't really know who made all of you kings of the music land, but you should really just keep your opinions to yourself. You all make the world a worse place with your hate (I'm talking about you SCIdude/hater). We all know Cheese has put on some terrible shows, but what the point of nitpicking and saying, "Oh well they didn't have it on such and such of a night, so the music is garbage." I love jambands as much as the next guy, but we all know that some of our favorite jambands (don't need to mention names) have very suspect vocals on some nights. So does that mean that you should shove razor blades down your throat? I mean, come on, do the posters a favor and think of something a little more intelligent to add to the convo next time. BTW, how fuckin cool is it that Adrian Belew is playing with UM for 4 shows, I'll be at 3 for sure...can't wait :)
Oh wow!! I love these pics. I don't understand all the hating, either. The Flaming Lips kick ass in their own unique way. But, I guess I just enjoy a variety of levels and forms of entertainment. When I go to a show, I don't sit and try to figure out if the band is playing their technical best or if their vocals are dead on. Nope, I just like to be entertained and soak up the experience.
Belew & UM?!?!?! I done shat my pants.
I was at the show and it was killer. Wayne comes out after a few songs and says something along the lines of: You may think that the Flaming Lips calendar is messed up and why did we only schedule one date on the 30th...that's b/c like San Francisco we have OUR OWN sense of TIME...and we're having our NYE party tonight...so hold on for few minutes and be ready to have the best New Year's Eve ever!!!!They proceed with the countdown and the balloons...the whole enchilada man, it was truly crazy. Topped of with CeeLo coming out for a rendition of What A Wonderful World (suspect vocals on this tune but it was still very cool). An encore with Yoshimi Does Battle and Do You Realize was a very nice finish for my experience. (maybe a few others, I left a little early to save some energy for Cheese the next night).
"too bad the music blows!" God damn, you're ignorant.
Do a little reading about the Lips' creative process and their pursuit of the perfect sonic experience, and you might start looking at their music a little differently. These guys are doing incredible work with sounds. It also helps explain why they do the same show over and over. If you don't dig it, cool- but save the hate. Doesn't do nobody no good.Awesome pics. Looks like a helluva party.
Iam so glad that i went the cheese that night. i dont care if they had every balloon in the world nothing beats around the wheel
Here to represent the Lips.
"theorb419 -too bad the music blows!God damn, you're ignorant."Too bad you're an asshat
hell to tha motha f*ckin' Yea-yah! Lips rule - f*ck the haters, they just some bitches that can't get down. Awesome pics
This show was literally "OUT of this World." Cat Power and the Delta Rythym Blues Band opened with a short, but moving perfomance. Gnarls Barkley has originality and their live shows fuckin rock. By far, one of the best new artists putting out good music. To put the icing on the cake, the Lips whole experience is indescribable. The pictures capture that so wonderfully. Wayne's charisma and ability to connect with the audience is paralleled by no one. He's a Genius and the Flaming Lips Show topped my list for 2006. (and i saw a lot of shows!)
ok,first of all...Cheese died a long time ago.. theyre finally doing something about it...quiting! I went to Widespread panic for NYE which was awesome, but if i weren't there I would have loved to see the Lips. They put on a truly unique show and are one of the most positive acts ever! Rock on. whoever said that shit about the Lips and Razor blades can has obviously eaten in toooo much shity Cheese! aaarck. Rock on Guys

Ween fuckin blew these guys off the stage last summer. There theatrical bullshit was fucking annoying. They were tryin to make up for the fact that they can't rock worth a shit. Shouldn't of even shared the same stage with WEEN.
im feelin the visuals, but ther music just doesn't spin me, i caught the wakarusa show ,grantred i was way in the back, but i still wasn't impressed.
Anybody that can listen to The Soft Bulletin and think that the lips suck must be a Rob Thomas fan.
I am really looking forward to The Lips scaring the crap out of all you soft-dinkies at Bonnaroo. They are a sick, far-out messed up group that has got my vote, now take yer seats and be happy.
