I guess I'm a little behind the times... but since when did Jambase suck so bad? Who gives a shit about Arcade Fire and their "highly-anticipated" album? I'm not anticipating it! I'm anticipating Gordo teaming up with Benevento and Garage a trois, not some douchebags whining about lost love and friendship. That is the most unintelligent comment i've heard in weeks. The Arcade Fire are making music with substance. You're missing out on one of the best active bands in the world today. Just because one of the members wasn't in Phish and doesn't write songs consisting of 10 minute three chord vamps doesn't constitute such a statement. God, go read a book.

I dont know, I just listened to some Arcade Fire tracks, and they sound pretty much like standard pop to me. Pretty whiny and annoying also. And I think those lyrics quoted in the article are pretty awful too. Also good jam music isnt about three chord vamps, thats what pop is about. This stuff is sooo repetitive it gets annoying really fast. Really I dont understand how someone could like progressive jam music AND this. I'd much rather see metal news, at least metal musicians have talent.

the lyrics qouted in this article are definetely nothing special. However, Funeral is an album that grew on me heavily after multiple listens and has since become one of my favorite albums. The Arcade Fire's music is very well written and orchestrated, and is not what just what you are calling "pop" music. These songs are full of interesting instrumentation that warrants consistant replay.

totally agree. Infact I think its harder to write a really good song then to just jam. A really good musician can learn to jam if thats all they do. Ask them to write a really good song and I am sure its not as easy as one might think.

Looks like ganjjj and Samzo can have themselves a nice little bitch-fest together. The rest of us WILL anticipate the follow-up to one of the best albums of the decade.

I come to this site for news about bands that take musical RISKS in a live setting. Improv music is about experiencing LIVE CREATIVITY which produces a kind of energy that could never exist when a band is just playing their songs... no matter how good those songs are.

If you all like to go to shows to hear your favorite album played note for note, then you probly don't belong on this site. (Or what this site used to represent, but as I said, I must be behind the times.)

Their london and montreal shows all sold out in minutes. Please do your research before making silly arguments.

sk8man you obviously missed the point of what I said... first of all judging a band by how many shows they sell out is weak. Second of all... THEY STILL DON'T JAM no matter how awe inspiring they are. Wow, they can get up on stage and play what they rehearsed. I don't call that performance talent, I call it REHEARSING A LOT.

I'll list some names for you, because you are pretending like they are ignoring improvisational music on this site...Matisyahu, JFJO, Warren Haynes Christmas Jam, moe., Govt Mule, Hot Buttered Rum, Down on the Farm Fest, Trey Anastasio, Primus, U-Melt, Little Feat, The Radiators, Bob Weir, YMSB, Trey Anastasio, Zilla...ON THE HOME PAGE. Most of us come to this site because we love all kinds of music, and this is one of the best all-inclusive sites on the internet. Don't tell me (or anybody else for that matter) I don't belong on this site, because I've been coming to it for years and years, and I love the fact that they keep diversifying, because my music tastes are always doing the same.

Arcade Fire rocks. They create interesting dynamic textured music with unique orchestrations that haven't been done before. There might be a reason why 2 of the most vibrant artists of the 20th century (Bowie and Byrne) have proclaimed these guys as the future of music.

I can't say that for many "jam bands" today. And what an oxymoron - "progressive jam music" - I would call that Jazz. Nothing "progressive" has come out of the "jam" community in years.

I've been visiting this site since the early 90's when it was a Phish/Simpson's wesite named after Andy Gadiel. Back in those days (my teenage years) I would have agreed with statements complaining about this article. Back then I was all about improv. jams. Thank God I'm older now and appreciate all that music has to offer. These guys are by far my favorite band to emerge in the last seven years.....easy

Well I have to admit I wasn't impressed. I listened to both albums. I like listening to different music that I hear about. Sometimes I stumble on good things.

A few days ago I turned on the radio station I grew up with and they were playing this band. I realized why I stopped listening to the radio and just find my own music either through live shows or the internet.

I listen to a wide variety of music but I just get into this band.

But I want to get one thing straight. Just because I don't like this band does it mean that this review being on this site offends me.

Here goes the hippy in me, can't we all just get along. Just because you don't like the music means you have to attack something. Whether that be the website or the people who do like this band.

I have to agree with Crazy. I just downloaded Funeral and listened to it. My impression was a band I'd probably go see at a fest to make my girfriend happy. They aren't all that bad, and its not like Jambase gave them a two page writeup or anything.

Listen to this guy. He is open. You all should have open minds to music. Whenever I feel like bashing somthing in any aspect of life i go to this quote.

Once I started letting go of dislike of genres of music or anything for any reason, i found SOOO much more music that i never would have found. Try it.

And all I'm saying is that this kind of posting is just promotional fluff, its not really what Jambase is all about... I just get more and more suspicious of Jambase and their corporate backing as time goes on (Clear Channel, Sony, etc.). As I said, I'm sure Arcade Fire is great, but they are by no means an improvisational band... this seems to me like a sponsored posting... the new "payola". Wikipedia that.

Samzo - it's about Quality. Nothing else. For real. Let go of yourself and find out. And above all, enjoy. This is music, afterall. And why do we have to label it? It's what THEY do. Not what we should do.

Samzo, what don't you get about Jambase posting news about a band they like? Phish was far more popular than Arcade Fire is, but I doubt you were "suspicious" when they were posting about them, and Phish were on Elektra, Widespread Panic (Sanctuary/Capricorn), Govt. Mule (ATO), etc...Arcade Fire is on Merge (does that sound like a major to you?). You just seem to have a double standard because it is not improvisational music. Phish, Grateful Dead, Widespread--I've heard all of them on Clear Channel radio stations. I don't ever recall hearing an Arcade Fire song on a Clear Channel station. Not that any of this matters, because the main concern should be the quality of the music, not the record label, classification, or where you hear it. You just start throwing around all this sellout talk because you don't like the band, which sounds kind of like a child throwing a tantrum because he isn't getting exactly what he wants.

I think its classic that he thinks jambase is getting funded by a clear channel/or whoever......
