The Grateful Dead's Tom Constanten and NYC's Gent Treadly Burn Through the Southwest with Arizona's own J. Wail
 Tom Constanten |
Rock and Roll hall of famer Tom Constanten will embark on a week-long jaunt through Arizona and Nevada with his compadre Gent Treadly. They will be joined by Arizona musician and National Touring artist J. Wail.
Constanten, an accomplished concert pianist who studied under classical giants Luciano Berio and Karlheinz Stockhausen and been an artist-in-residence at Harvard University, also happens to be the first piano player in the Grateful Dead. "TC," as deadheads call Constanten, will take fans on a psychedlic trip through his back pages of legendary Haight Ashbury grooves (Constanten is featured on seminal sixties releases like Live Dead, Aoxomoxoa and Anthem of the Sun) and highbrow classical chops while also dipping into Gent Treadly's original funk and his own recent CD release Moved to Stanleyville.
Gent Treadly had toured extensively with another erstwhile Grateful Dead keyboardist, Arizona's own Vince Welnick, for the past five years. When Welnick moved on to the great gig in the sky earlier this year, TC helped fill several festival dates with Gent Treadly that were already booked. These gigs developed into an ongoing collaboration which was tragically interrupted when Gent Treadly's acclaimed guitarist Mike Jaimes passed away only last month. For the upcoming gigs in the southwest, TC & GT have enlisted the Fabulous Foust brothers (Ken and Dougo) to fill the gaping musical void left by Jaimes absence. Although these rock & roll warriors have seen it all and been through a lot over the last year, they promise to bring the party on their upcoming trip. So get on the bus and make a tour of it!
To add to the festivities, Arizona musician and National Touring Artist J. Wail will be providing support on the bill. Headlining the "Funktronica Freshness Tour" this past summer, J. Wail has lighting up dance floors coast to coast. J. Wail performs sets of organic electronica-mixing live instruments and electronica devices. As most musicians of the electronica genre use turntables, J. Wail used live instruments, making his performance especially unique. Recently J. Wail has shared the stage with Dean Ween of Ween and Brock Butler of Perpetual Groove. Who knows what may occur when TC comes to town? Check out J. Wail at myspace.com/jwail.
