Sonic Youth: The Destroyed Room: B-Sides and Rarities

On December 12th, Geffen will release Sonic Youth's The Destroyed Room: B-Sides and Rarities. The release will fulfill Sonic Youth's contract with the label, one they will likely not renew. Bassist/guitarist Kim Gordon says that Thurston Moore and guitarist Lee Ranaldo have been in charge of the album, which will feature tracks from old vinyl singles, compilations, rare international releases, and never before released material.
When asked if the band would re-sign with Geffen (where they have been since 1990), Gordon remarked to Billboard, "I don't really think they want us to stay. They fired a few key people working on [the band's 2006 album Rather Ripped] a week before it came out. Our A&R person -- he worked on our last record with us, and that was the first time we had an A&R person in five years, but we liked him. Also a marketing person who had really good ideas. So, I don't know."
Sonic Youth is currently putting their efforts into a tour beginning December 8th with the Nightmare Before Christmas festival in England, which Moore is curating. Dates in South America, Japan and China are in the works, and Gordon reports that Moore is working on material for his next solo album.
