MATISYAHU TO HEADLINE MULTIPLE NIGHTS
AT HAMMERSTEIN BALLROOM IN NYC THIS DECEMBER FOR
THE FIRST ANNUAL FESTIVAL OF LIGHT CONCERT SERIES

"It has been two short years since Matisyahu married Hasidic Judaism and reggae. But with the March release of Youth, the rapper-singer crashed alternative rock's barrier and connected with an audience that has rarely heard the spiritual message from either party Matisyahu represents."
-Phil Gallo, Variety "Power Issue," 8/31/2006

Matisyahu
Oct. 11, 2006 - Following a busy season of touring and major festival appearances alongside some of the biggest names in music such as Kanye West, The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Radiohead, Matisyahu will give his hometown fans a holiday treat this Hannukah when he kicks off "The First Annual Festival of Light" concert series at Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. Matisyahu will be joined by his band Roots Tonic and a different special opening act each night on December 16th, 17th & 19th.

Fan club pre-sale date is October 11th at 4pm ET through Matisyahu's new official website, www.matisyahuworld.com, where fans can join "The Bridge," the official Matisyahu fan club, and have exclusive access to tickets before public sale. The Live Nation pre-sale will be October 16th at noon and tickets will go on sale to the public at noon on October 19th, with all tickets priced at $30.

Critics have praised his ability to draw fans from unexpected places with his "hypnotic blend of reggae and rap music" (San Jose Mercury News). Paste Online raved about his appearance at the Austin City Limits Festival, saying, "Matisyahu performed on the same stage as Gnarls Barkley did earlier in the weekend, but the saturated air and the glaring sun didn't prevent him from putting on the performance of the festival. With his unconventional dance moves, infectious songs and moments of deep space dub, he made an irresistible impression." (Jim Caliguri, 10/4/06)

Matisyahu's latest studio release, the gold-certified YOUTH (Epic) debuted at #4 on the Billboard Top 200, has garnered critical acclaim worldwide and continues to be a Top 5 mainstay in the Billboard reggae charts.

The "Youth" album lacked the energy and it was pretty much worthless... And why would he abandon the non-profit jewish lable that got him to where he is today????? I don't know bout this Mr. Miller character.

Why would he abandon his nonprofit label and get signed with a major label, with worldwide distribution that can get him out on the road playing major festivals and earning new fans in the process (He totally blew my mind at The Bill Graham Civic Bob Marley fest.) This Mr. Miller must want to make a living playing professionally Spaceface, I'm suspicious you have some agenda. Are you a socialist? I think the Youth album is just fine and has plenty of energy. If you (Mr. 7) have you written or recorded or produced a piece of work you're proud of post it up online. Maybe people will be kinder and more postive regarding your work than you'be been with Mr. Miller who happens to be one of the most electricying performers I've ever seen.

The first couple times I saw him he put on a really good show. The 3 subsequent shows that I saw were all progressively worse. I agree that Youth wasn't as impressive as his first release. I hope he doesn't let preaching a message get in the way of making great music.

unfortunately for matisyahu i believe that he has peaked musically. i was a big fan and have seen him several times now. however the allure of his live show has become less and less appealing to me, especially post-Youth. i understand that he wants to be mainstream and has a message to promote, however i just don't see it all lasting longer than a few years. the songs are good and the show is high-energy, but it's really only a matter of time before people really start getting sick of him (if they haven't already). i'm not quite sure if i see him progressing beyond what he has shown us in the last few years. i have a great amount of respect for him, but this is all just my opinion. take it or leave it.

I can't believe people still talk about this guy, I have to guess that most of his fans, especially those who frequent this web-site are probably people who have never been exposed to real (Underground) Hip Hop. If you really think he's great check out some of these; Del, Heiroglyphics, Mr. Lif, El-P, Murs and of course BLACKALICIOUS!!!

good call on the Snow mOOns, haha, "Informer". I saw him at Lollapalooza and his band does kinda jam, but they aren't the ones with their name and face all over everything, sorry Matisyahu, but you just don't do it for me, as well as everyone else I know.

SCIfreak69, I've been going to SCI shows since the mid 90's and know for a fact that they started as a bunch of "phish kids" trying to deny this would seem ridiculous to most people

Matisyahu is a great musician as well as advertising a great message. Its also especially cool to Orthodox Jews having one of their own being so popular and cool and having someone to look up to in mainstream music. If you don't like him, you don't have to listen to him, so let the others enjoy his music and stop wasting your time complaining on jambase.
