On Friday, October 13th Particle will be celebrating their 6th Anniversary at Henry Fonda Theatre in Hollywood.
Over the last few months the band has been touring across the country hitting both coasts. This tour could tentatively be titled the "American Dream" tour because their heaviest-hitting new original song, "The American Dream," is featured in the recently released Scarface video game and has also been played frequently on stage. On the Pacific Northwest leg of the tour the band was joined by the Flying Other Brothers, featuring Pete Sears, Barry Sless and Saturday Night Live's GE Smith. For several nights during the run, Particle also invited members of the seminal jam-act to the stage for a few encore appearances. In Bend, OR on September 1st, Sears joined Particle on keyboards for "The Golden Gator." On September 3rd in Ashland, OR, Sless joined the band for Pink Floyd's "Any Colour You Like," while Sears and Smith then hopped onboard for "Another Brick in the Wall II." The band finished the run in front of a huge crowd at Seattle's Bumbershoot Festival.
Another huge highlight of the tour was a sold out late-night show during Austin City Limits Festival in mid September. In Dallas, TX the band played "Double Helix" for the first time with the current lineup and "The Banker" also came back into rotation in Oxford, MS. Several new songs entered the Particle repertoire including the hard rocking "Howl at the Moon" which features Ben Combe on vocals and "Six Long Weeks" which is a bluesy and soulful song featuring Steve Molitz on vocals that also has plenty of exploratory jamming. Molitz has also been experimenting with a new technique called Key Loop which is an electronic groove with many layers of sound.
The tour wrapped up with highlights including 100 shows for Ben Combe on September 29th in Charleston, SC and a guest appearance from Les Hall (Trey Anastasio Band) on keys for "Other Desert Cities" in Chattanooga, TN.
For this anniversary show the band will be debuting more new material for the hometown crowd and the show will also feature an Urban theme. People are encouraged to dress up in parachute pants, Adidas and bring boom-boxes.
