MFA (Music For America) is hooking up political activists with free tickets to shows by folks like Drive-By Truckers, the Decemberists and TV on the Radio.
As MFA says on their website: "You go to the show, you register some voters, you talk to folks about what we're doing (building a whole new community to fix politics), they get excited and the whole thing keeps growing."
From www.musicforamerica.org/politix:
Volunteering at Shows
How does this whole thing work anyway?
The big picture:
(1) Our Music Department (led by Dan) contacts bands and asks them for 2 things. To take our materials on their tour and to give us a couple of free tickets to each of their shows. This is a lot to ask for and the reason bands say yes is because they are excited about bringing a positive political voice into their fans.
(2) We send them the materials (flyers, stickers, voter registration forms) and we find the volunteers—if you're reading this, that means you.
(3) You go to the show, you register some voters, you talk to folks about what we're doing (building a whole new community to fix politics), they get excited and the whole thing keeps growing.
Meanwhile, the bands are happy because they did some good, you're happy cuz you saw a show for free and met some cool people, and we're happy because the whole thing is working. (It is working, btw. 2/3 of all political concerts last year were MFA shows, and that was our first year!)
OK, but exactly what are the things I need to do?
The first thing is to go to the calendar of shows and pick one you want to go to. Fill out your info, and we'll get in touch by email and phone to make sure you're all set.
But y'all better hurry over to: www.musicforamerica.org/event, because events are filling up. Get on it, help the cause, see FREE MUSIC!
