MIGHTIER THAN THOU

The famed Cabooze in Minneapolis hosted a concert/work out session where the All Mighty Senators led the exercise. Due to unforeseen circumstances, it took yours truly until 11:15 to arrive. From outside, I could hear AMS finishing Culture Shock, a fine example of AMS space tranzmissions. I knew what was coming - blending expansive, energetic jams with excellent songwriting, often subjecting the ass to non-stop flex doo-wop.

Fortunately for listeners, AMS possesses a collection of fast-paced blends of Rock and Soul. A question posed by the group... what is rock and soul? AMS used many styles in between and brought to the stage special guest keyboardist Al Oikari of The Big Wu. AMS played favorites like Flow and One Way Street along with some freshly introduced tunes. Their bluegrassy number, Something Shaking in the Moonlight(?), was written while leaving Minnesota on their last visit. Other highlights were some great covers, baby, including Feel Like Making Love and Ring of Fire.

Give All Mighty Senators the opportunity to lay it down on a big anticipated gathering, i.e. The Big Wu Family Reunion, and they will explode. Movement is a necessity, yet only due to natural reflexes beyond control, driven by a deep energy not defined by words but rather, by feelings. Seriously throwing a blended root of jazz, rock, soul and more funk of their own, All Mighty Senators reflects an all too amazing complex message. Who really knows how to describe the feel they give? The energy is all too surreal.

Revisiting tranzmission over, AMS tranzmission, Loud and Clear.
