JITD SCHEDULE & VIDEO

Jam in the Dam releases 2007 Schedule
& 2006 Video Capsule

The Duo w/ Mathis & Previte
Jam in the Dam 2006 by K. Quinn

Jam in the Dam has released the following schedule of artist performances for the 2007 edition of our international festival, featuring Yonder Mountain String Band, Keller Williams, Dark Star Orchestra, and Galactic. This overlapping set time format has been received very well the first two years, as it provides non-stop music, keeps each room in the venue comfortable, yet affords an opportunity to experience all of the artists as you can flow back and forth between the Max and the Old Hall.

Also, we have recently completed the new Video Capsule, which was shot in March at the 2006 event. Larry Shapiro and Cinovative again did a masterful job of capturing the feel, energy, and intimacy of this one-of-a-kind event. Bring back some memories, or see what you missed! You'll need an updated version of Quicktime to view.

Watch the video here!

Tickets went on sale September 20th in Europe, and is the ONLY place to get one-night tickets. Our European friends love this aspect, as it is a lot more feasible to come for a night or two, if you live on the continent.

See you in March!

Jam in the Dam 2007 Line-Up Announcement & On Sale Info
March 18-19-20, 2007

25 years ago, in October of 1981, the Grateful Dead played at the Melkweg in Amsterdam, home of Jam in the Dam, for the first and only time. It's an event that venue owner Cor Schlosser remembers with fondness to this day. Cor still owns the venue, and is as much an Amsterdam musical fixture as his legendary venue, which has hosted a who's who of rock n' roll aristocracy over the past thirty years or so.

So, to help celebrate the 25th anniversary of that special occasion, we got Dark Star Orchestra to climb aboard our 'festival express', along with simpatico brethren Yonder Mountain String Band, Keller Williams, and Galactic. JitD 2007 promises to be a sing-along, dance-along, party-along event that maybe this venue hasn't seen since those rare days in 1981. Ask anyone who has attended either of the first two installments of this one-of-a-kind festival, and you'll likely get a crooked smile, a glow of fond remembrance, and hear the words 'dude,' 'man,' or 'sweet.' We think this festival draws some of the nicest, most adventurous music fans there are, from both this country and all over Europe.

If you're new to the concept, the Melkweg houses two concert halls under one roof. It was just one back in '81, which is now the Oude Zaal (Old Hall, cap. 750) The Max was added much later, and will finish a renovation by March that will expand its capacity to 1500. Since the common areas and Old Hall remain the same size, we don't plan on selling more than the 1500 TOTAL tickets allotted for the previous shows. The result will be a much more spacious experience in the Max, yet small enough to retain the intimate atmosphere for which this show is famous. The bands each play two-hour sets, each night, in one of the two venues. The overlapping set times provide non-stop music from 9:00 until 3:00. We will release the exact schedule very soon.

Tickets will go on sale next Tuesday, September 12th, at Noon EST. There will be a link from our website, jaminthedam.com directly to MusicToday, who has done a bang-up job with ticket sales every year. Early bird tickets will be $185, and every early bird order will receive a free JitD 2005 DVD! (one per order). When those are gone, the price will be $200 until January 1st, and $225 after that. Baseline Ticketing will also have an allotment of early bird tickets, as well as regular priced. www.baselineticketing.com.

Travel packages will be available through Madison House Travel for those wanting assistance in planning this journey. As everyone is coming from all corners of the country, there can be no 'one price fits all' package, but they do offer discounts on airfares and make special deals on rates with several near-by hotels and hostels. Tickets are NOT included in any packages, and must be bought separately. They are completely transferable.

If you really want to get a feel of what it's like to be one of the fortunate, Jam in the Dam 2005 is available on DVD from many places, including our website www.banzai.us/frameset_rope.htm, and was actually featured on Comcast On Demand in August. Larry Shapiro and Cinovative did an outstanding job of capturing the entire event and all of the fun and wonderment of both the fans and the bands. He also produced the video capsule, which can be seen from a link on our homepage jaminthedam.com. Keller Williams' interview aboard the canal boat affords a unique perspective of this beautiful, historic, and kind city. It's a place everyone should see at least once. Seeing it while enjoying four of your favorite bands at a party of historic proportions, is almost too good to be true.

If you have been to Amsterdam before, don't bother with JITD. If not, it will add to your experience, but don't be expecting a great festival type experience.

I can't believe there are people out there that don't appreciate the simple fact of musicians coming together to reform one of the greatest and well known Grateful Dead "cover bands" out there.
If any artist to booo about dparris1, it should be Keller Williams. Seriously, how much longer is this guy going to be cool. He was cool back in '01, but it's time for someone else to get on the horse.
thank you.

What??? Where are the biscuits in this line-up I was ready to buy tickets bopok rooms and save up money to blow away.... This is crazy, I love Keller (most of the time) and Dso is the best cover band ever probably, and galactic is great too, but over the past couple years jam in the dam has been about the biscuits, I wonder if anyone else is as dissapointed as me.... Please put the biscuits on the bill and then it's a party for sure

what in the hell happened to this festy. Wouldn't even pay to see DSO if they come back to San Fran.... Keller and Galactic are alright - but what about about umphs, DB, and sts9 - damn! dissapointed with another awesome festival that can't produce year after year. I guess it could be worse - DMB could be added.

i was at jitd this spring and loved it all and would have flown from the states for it, but i was already in europe at the time so getting there wasnt hard or expensive. i was thinkin of going this year again, but as for the plane ticket and $200 fest ticket these 3 just dont do it for me to go all that way...but act #4, we'll just have to see, itd better be pretty solid to get people to jump the pond.

Wow this line up sucks. without the big hitter ( umphreys and bisco) this festy will die after this year. do to no tickets being sold. 3 days is too long to be in amsterdam in the first place, if you have experience the rest of europe. now with not 1 good band. its over. RIP JITD

Please, people, don't let disappointment over umphrey's and bisco overshadow the joy, the love, the talent that DSO brings. They so transcend any notion of "cover bands" that the term really should not be used in the same breath as this band. Some refrain from seeing DSO out of purist notions re: the Dead, some because of the perceived cover band schtick, some because they don't know any better. But what DSO brings to the scene, and especially to the music, is worthy of the JITD and then some! Go - you will not be disappointed...

I was in europe as well last year making it easier to get there, but with this lineup your not getting that late nite dance party that is the aura of amsterdam like you did when sts9 and bisco were there last fall. Dark Star, Keller and Galactic are all great bands but not great enough to make the trip out there. its a wonderful venue though, nice bathrooms, no security, can brinng in own alcohol to beat expensive beer prices plus your in the dam. DSO is good at what they do and all (make money, help lots of other people make money)- but compaerd to reid mathis and joe russo on stage together , come on, folks! who are we kidding? you all want to see a cover band? im going to see micky mouse this year instead!

KW is always fun - somehow he covers all kinds of people and makes it work. somehow he can cover phish without bothering me - hes about the only person anyway.

i can take about half an hour of Stan Moore before im bored of the same groove. galactic - theres a band that would not have made it without e!

Iwhile i love the dead they wont be playing there. Galactic is well worth seeing but not flying across the world for. i'm on the no liate night dance party no go to the dam side.

I've never been to Amsterdam, but the chance to see DSO there has got me excited!!! Need to get my papers in order. For all you naysayers IMO it is more a matter of the audience ACCEPTING THE MUSIC from a new source, which is hard for some true fans of the Grateful Dead and Ratdog. It was hard for me at first, especially seeing someone 'playing the part' of Bob Wier while Bob is perfectly alive and still rocking. But that purist attitude I've learned does nothing for THE FUTURE. If you love the music of the Grateful Dead and want to hear it live in the future, it's going to be DSO, they are the best at what they do and they will continue to do it because apparently they love it! Perhaps (heaven forbid) it will take the deaths/retirement of Weir and Lesh for those who still call DSO a 'cover band' to come on board, but eventually THEY WILL!! Keep rockin DSO!

I'm truly blown away by the negativity here. Are you just a bunch of children who cry, whine, and stomp their feet when they don't get what they want on Christmas morning? My gosh, didn't your parents teach you anything about respect? Ok, maybe DSO isn't your bag, but what gives you the right to just bash them for bashings sake? At least give your opinion if you've actually seen them play.

I saw the Grateful Dead play well over 150 times in 6 different countries, Jerry is gone, I miss him more than words can say, the Grateful Dead don't play anymore, if this music is your bag of chips I GUARANTEE YOU, nobody, no other group of 7 people can recreate the beautiful music of the Grateful Dead like John, Rob, Kevin, Lisa, Rob, Dino, and Dan do...NOBODY!!!

I give you my Deadhead word of honor, Dark Star Orchestra is the REAL DEAL, they're not a cover band, not by any means, they are truly the spirit of the Grateful Dead recreated.

Give them a chance, you'll love the experience.

Actually look for a huge drop in ticket sales from whiney 20something year olds who stomp there feet when they don't get what they want. Take your negativity elsewhere, then look for a big JUMP in ticket sales from the all the European Deadheads who haven't seen this special music played by group of professionals who know how to do it just like Jerry and boys did way back when.

DSO is an excellant band and I understand the reluctance of some that have posted. I almost left before my first experience/concert because I hate cover bands (one of my first jobs was a rodie for an Elvis band, yuck). 4 hours after not leaving, I realized how fortunate I was for "sticking it out". I can honestly say that this band (DSO) has helped to save my life, along with Phil's band(s). Not that I was suicidal or anything, but that my spirit was dying a slow death because I thought that all that was left of The Grateful Dead were the memories and the truth is that what happened, all those years, was too goood, true and important not to continue on in this form. Not enough people saw what happened and for those that did, we didn't experience enough, couldn't experience enough of IT. I just hope I can make it over for this event.

1.) DSO rocks dead tunes way better than Bobby or Phil could dream of playin them nowadays. Saw both tours this summer multiple times and I hate to say it, but they've definately sounded way better.
2.) Anyone who can't get down with the K-dub funk is a piece of fucking poo. Music is also about songwriting. It's not all about rolling your balls off, staring off into the light rig and not remembering the setlist. But hey, Galactic is there too for all you tweakers. (Even though they are amazing musicians you can all get your fix cuz they get crazy!!)
3.) I don't care who they bands are. Anyone lucky enough to be sitting in a coffeshop, during a festival IN AMSTERDAM, puffing on LEGAL marijauna is gonna be laughing at all you beat complainers across the pond. Peace Out!

I have a question and a comment. First, why is everyone so crazy about Keller Williams? I just can't see why. Second, to Shanky95. DSO doesn't rock dead tunes better than members of the Grateful Dead. You sound like an idiot saying that. Kimock is miles ahead of any of these bands playin in the DAM.

to mountainjam75, did u say that kimock was a member of the dead? or are those two different subjects? just wanted to make sure i had it right. i agree that the DSO are not better then the original. they are great musicians, but they are impersonators playing other peoples music, so that alone would not make them better. they are great at what they do and i have had a great time seeing them. i do wonder how that may affect their personalities, playing somebody else everynight. One thing that DSO can do that Bobby and Phil cannot do right now, is take an old set and make it sound very close to the original, voices and all. listening to them on disc could fool some, because it does sound really good. i give DSO mad props cause they rock and they keep the spirit alive. i also give mad props to phil and bobby for staying true to the scene and also playing great music still. as for keller williams, he's o.k. he used to be in the crowd at dead shows and is very entertaining, but i wouldn't go all out for a one man band on an acoustic guitar. i'll buy his discs, but would definately not do tour. he's alot better than that SCI crap. i'd probably check them out if they were keller's backup band, just as long as they don't sing. as for the disco buscuits, i don't see the hype. i saw them about 4 or 5 years ago at charlotte's center city fest. and they bored me. leftover salmon was much more entertaining on that day. unless i caught them on a bad day. i would have to say that Galactic is the best band on this bill. They rock and are original. thats my $.02. peace.

HELLLOOOO?!?! The venue only holds 1,500 people. It will be my first time in the dam or across the pond for that matter and I can not wait. The music will be an added bonus as far as I'm concerned.

And since when is techno music the only music required for a "late night dance party"? HOW THE HELL DO YOU NOT FALL ASLEEP WHERE YOU STAND LISTENING TO SNORE TRIBE SECTOR NINE @ 2 IN THE MORNING!?!? Is it the drugs??

If you start to bitch and freak out that your watching a cover band, find me... Cuz I'm bringing some ducktape and will gladly tape your eyes and your mouth shut-HAHA

The truth of the matter is that this event is SO much fun, that people are way invested in the idea of going back. They found out their favorites weren't going to be there this year, and they are very disappointed. Understandably. But it opens the door for many others who may not be into the techno thing. Live and let live, but long live JitD. At least it arouses that kind of passion from folks. That's a good sign for it's longevity.

Get over Sound Tribe. Their shows are boring and redundant. If you put that many people on as many drugs that are at a STS9 show those tweakers would dance to anything. This is a good lineup, not into Keller anymore and hate Dark Star, but YMSB is the shit. In response to QBKeys, the members of DSO are snobby assholes, I lived behind the Fox Theater in Boulder and they were the rudest band I ever met. I had to go to work and asked the guitarist if he could help me move the equipment blocking my car and he looked around and said he doesn't do that and walked away, not friendly at all. Don't understand what they are so high on, they are a cover band and that is it!!

I'm so happy that all you heads who only want to party on hard drugs and have your stupid late night techno party thats always the same circular jams devoid of true songwriting ability won't be joining us at JITD. those of us who appreciate a good SHOW, i.e. performers who entertain with banter in addition to solid songwriting and jams, will be smiling as we take too hits and the joint turns brown. granny wont you smoke some CHRONIC without jamtronic!

Good to see that some of the ad hominem attacks have died down and everyone is learning to just all get along. I can understand folks who are upset that the bands they have come to see for the last two years won't be there. Those who bash DSO as a "cover band" are truly missing one of the best scenes around. Aside from the sheer talent the band members display, and the beauty of their labor of love keeping the GD music alive and well, the fans and family are as caring and sharing as any I have ever had the pleasure to know.

I am sorry for the person who had an unpleasant run-in with DSO at the Fox - I have had the privilege of knowing them for quite a while now and have never heard of such an occurance. But everyone has a bad night, or week, or month...

Seeing DSO and Yonder across the pond with 1500 good friends - some I already know and some I just haven't met yet - sounds like heaven to me. Of course, I am easily amused, but still...

Peace, everyone...

I definitely wouldnt go so far as to say this lineup is bad... but personally, it doesnt provide the incentive for me to travel so far. I would say that they might have trouble getting as many tickets sold, since regardless of their musical ability, these bands dont quite have the dedicated following that last years do, but they only have to sell 1500 tix, so i dont think it will be too much of a problem.

Though im disappointed that i wont be heading out this year, I think the massive amount of stupid and negative comments on this board, and throughout this community is unnecessary and unfortunate. if you have an interesting comment to make, do it but dont just hate on a band because you are not into it.

its exactly this kind of deliberate misunderstanding and negativity that this music, and this scene has tried to defeat throughout the years.

Finally, in response to all the equating the tdb and sts9 fans to nothing more than drug-addled zombies, just remember that since the days of the dead, this sterotype has been mistakenly and ignorantly applied to fans of every band thats been a part of creating the music we all love.

This is simply the BEST party the Jam scene has to offer. (Jam Cruise is close, IMO) Going for particular band is certainly a part of it, but these bands ALL draw in the thousands of people all over the country. There's no filler. If they sucked, as some purport, I don't think that would be the case. The event itself has a draw at this point, and if your favorites aren't there, just don't go this year. I personally loved the first two years, but think I will enjoy the 'party' aspect of this one even more.

Today is a day for reflection. Say a prayer for the lives that were lost 5 years ago today. No matter what your opinions are about the subject, we should all realize how fragile the entity of a living organism really is. We should reflect on the idea that of all the possibilites of a sustainable planet, we are it. We should all focus our energy, thoughts, and intentions in a far better way than tooting horns, and bickering over what band is or isn't playing over here or over there, and for why or why not. Enjoy your time here, and live your day like it is your last.

Wow, never seen such a bunch of negative people in one place. I have been seeing the Grateful Dead and its many incarnations since 1982, I love the band, love the music and the love the scene. The band no longer here, however the music and the scene is still all over. I cherish the times i get to see a good band playing Grateful Dead music. Not sure if people with the oh so negative comments about this and that even belong in this scene at all. While the Grateful Dead was still alive...rarely saw any other bands, the demise of the Grateful Dead has opened so many doors. So much good music outdoor and all influenced by the good ole Grateful Dead. Give it a break. You dont like a certain band...by all means please dont go see them, but maybe also keep your negativity to yourselves. Some of you sound like whiny elementary school kids, who dont get their way all the time. Oh, I was born in Holland and so wish when i was growing up there. (moved to the U.S. when i was 16) they had these types of festivals going on in my neck of the woods (Amsterdam and The Hague) Amsterdam, whether going for a music festival or having this as part of your trip is well worth it, no matter who is playing. (well.....almost no matter who is playing). Not been to Jam in the Dam, not sure if I will make it, but please...keep the positive spirits flowing. What would Jerry say? (*-*)

I am married to a beautiful girl named EmmaBlue. We were at Jam in The Dam last March, and we had such a great time. Her Favorite music is Disco Biscuits and mine is the Grateful Dead. Sound Tribe were okay but we were there for Umph and Biscuits, and the Duo put on a spectacular show.

I was waiting in line for the bathroom and I said "Disco Biscuits are going to be the next Phish" and some guy started to tell me "Stringcheese are the best!" and began starting a fight with me... Stop being so ego driven all you adolescent rock fans, why don't you get a job working with a band if you are so opinionated, stand up for yourself, fight your own fight and stop having bullshit rants about trance, dub, rock, funk music. Chill out! We bought our tickets to Jam in The Dam today~ and we will see you in March 2007!!

I'd be happy seeing Brittney Spears in Europe. This website has become a joke. What if someone likes to roll hard sometimes and likes a late night dance party, but really does not like DB or STS9? Or what if someone else is totally sober and loves them? Or how about bluegrass in the afternoon and electronica at 4:00 am. Will all your heads explode? I just wish I could go even though my favorite band is not there.

If read the comments on this website and had never been to west coast shows and knew what real peace loving music fans are all about, I would stay far away from this so called "scene".

I see that the bashing and negativity has returned. You're all behaving like children who cry, whine, and throw a temper tantrum when they don't get what they want. Like the song goes "sometimes this darkness has got to give!" Intersting position all the nay-sayers are taking, they don't get what they want so they flame the boards with darkness and anger, very nice.

I hope the people who set up JiD remember all the BS you gave them next year and just book DSO again!!!! We're going to sell the place out HARD, and we're going to be the most fun, respectful, positive fans you've ever had. We'll show you that you can leave the negativity in the past and just book bands who's fans don't throw temper tantrums when they don't get their way. Man, what would these negitive fans do if something happened in the middle of the event that forced it to be cancelled? I'll tell you what they'd do, they'd riot and destroy your venue like spoiled little children, is that who you want inside? Deadheads, Starheads, Kellerits, YMSB fans, and Galactians will REPRESENT and we'll be smiling, positive, and happy.

Peace, love, light, and personal musical choices for everyone.
