Fourteen thousand people watched the world premiere of Ca Ira, a classical opera by Roger Waters, ex-frontman of the Pink Floyd rock group, in the mid-western city of Poznan [Poland]. The event, which involved several hundred artists – an orchestra, choirs, opera singers, actors, dancers and stuntmen – was a key part of celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the Poznan June 1956 anti-communist demonstrations in the city. Waters said it was amazing that the project, conceived 17 years ago, was finally realized in Poznan. The city mayor was looking for an original idea to mark the crushing of a worker's revolt by the communist regime, Polish promoter Marek Szpendowski said.
