 Mute Math |
New Orleans band Mute Math will release their debut full length, Mute Math, September 26, 2006 via joint venture with the bands current indie label Teleprompt, and major label powerhouse Warner Brothers. The union is cause for much celebration, and the two parties couldn't be more pleased. Of the union, Teleprompt General Manager and band manager Kevin Kookogey puts it, "We have been welcomed with open arms by everyone at Warner Bros., and we look forward to rolling up our sleeves together with our new partners to provide even greater support to the Mute Math story."
Mute Math has a rather unique story behind them, and has quickly become one of the most in-demand live acts in the country. They've managed to sell over 45k (collectively) of their two releases with their strong DIY ethic (EP Reset and their self-titled debut full length, the latter of which was initially released in January 2006, as a tour only release with a deliberate "no retail" initial marketing plan). Teleprompt has also aggressively supported the band's efforts with non-stop internet campaigns, including extensive use of MySpace to reach fans with music, images, and nightly video blogs of their live shows. They bypassed the traditional major label situation altogether- their marketing plan seemed to work. When they released the record at tour dates back in January, the band initially sold over 200 CD's per night!
Their music is an addictive mix of pop, rock, beats with an experimental bent, somewhere between U2 and the Police with DJ Shadow and Bjork like production, and riddled with hooks galore. Live, it's the energy, occasional acrobatics and bouts of instrumental switcheroo that emboldens the player's chops. They also keep their loyal fans happy by filming their live show, nightly, and uploading them to their video blog on MySpace. Tracks like "Typical" and "Chaos" ignite with their rock tinged moments while the pop feel of "Notice" make these tracks seem destined to be all over radio. The show stopping numbers "Obsolete" and "Break the Same" are the bands best example of the Mute Math live experience. It is here where the act's pop lean and experimental prowess come to a head, with a dazzling display of skill and improvisation.
They've wowed crowds at both 2006 Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza festivals, playing in front of thousands at each, as well received run on Warped Tour. Later this month, due to the overwhelming response here at home, the buzz reached across the pond- the band will be making their UK debut at Carling Academy and the venerable V Festival this August! The band will return to the US and begin a major fall tour to support the record, including a stop at their Voo Doo Festival in their hometown of New Orleans and this year's CMJ Festival. Tour dates below.
That, our friends, is only the beginning. With the newly inked deal with Warner, coupled with the bands music and Teleprompt's savvy, it is safe to say that it's only a matter of time before the band conquers the world... and your stereo!
Also of note- The national version of the release will be released with three bonus tracks and a bonus limited edition live disc.
