In every city, there are bands creating new and exciting music, yet they exist under the radar of popularity. Only those willing to seek out these fresh sounds know the possibility that at some point, these same bands could very well become household names. Last night, I had the distinct pleasure of catching a couple of these low flying acts at Griffin's Public House.

The music started with a raging set from Mos Isley. For the uninitiated, Mos Isley exemplifies the "Jamband" moniker, and is clearly one of the rising stars coming out of Chicago. Playing all original compositions, the band filled the room with their unique blend of rock and groove. A four piece unit, keyboardist Jason Slade and guitarist Ricky Canning handle the singing duties, while drummer Tom Miller and bassist Brian Kallies lay the solid groundwork for some serious jam exploration. For a taste of what these boys are all about, catch Mos Isley during their Tuesday night residency at the Boulevard Cafe, where you can feed your belly, and feed your mind.

After a quick changeover, we were then treated to the sweet sounds of the Stu Remley Band. Stu Remley, or SRB as they're known to their legion of growing fans, has really stepped it up and out over the past year with their relentless practice and touring schedule, and it truly showed. With a delicate mix of heady covers and lyrical musings, Stu Remley created a flowing set of musical ear candy for all to enjoy. Bassist Rick Harper and drummer Cliff Kennedy fill the role of backbone quite well for this troupe of merrymen, while Stu Remley's secret weapon, Matt "Chai-m" Sokol, fills the grooves with his percussive genius. But clearly the real flavor in this outfit is the interstellar guitar work of Joseph Iudice. Truly a "sound and feel" musician, Joe treats each song with necessary respect, and seems to pay homage to his guitar mentors and heros. The combination of these five very talented artists makes for quite an enjoyable musical experience. Catch the Stu Remley Band as they tour the city and suburb circuit, and you'll treat yourself to a real good time.

With bands like Mos Isley and Stu Remley making names for themselves in different cities all over the country, our wonderful scene will continue to grow and prosper for many years to come.
