BAR 17 NOW AVAILABLE FOR PREORDER

On October 3 Trey Anastasio will release Bar 17 on his own Rubber Jungle Records. Now available for pre-order at Trey.com, all pre-orders of Bar 17 will include a copy of 18 Steps, a bonus mini-album of studio material from the Bar 17 sessions.

Bar 17 marks Trey's second solo album in just under a year as he continues his evolution as guitarist, songwriter and improvisationalist to create a kaleidoscopic yet cohesive listening experience, one of his most remarkable albums to date.

Recorded on and off over the past three years in a variety of locations including Trey's famed Barn recording studio in Vermont and co-producer Bryce Googin's (Phish, Pavement) Trout Studios in Brooklyn, NY. Joining Trey in the studio were musicians from all eras of Trey's career including members of Phish and various incarnations of Trey's solo band, string arranger Don Hart from his Seis De Mayo project and longtime collaborator John Medeski along with new friends the Benevento/Russo Duo, singers Carmen Keegan (I Nine) and Joan Wasser (Dambuilders, Joan As Police Woman), as well as local Brooklyn musicians such as bassist Todd Sickafoose (Ani DiFranco), drummer Ben Perowsky (Walter Becker, John Scofield) and trumpeter Stephen Bernstein (Sex Mob).

A musical chameleon at heart, Trey continues to immerse himself comfortably in a variety of sonic environments. Beginning with the familiar sound of Mike Gordon's basswork on the dynamic opening track "Host Across the Potomac", Trey touches on Stones Exile-era riffing ("Dragonfly" and "Mud City") and thrilling guitar solos on the title track and "What's Done," as well as the structured-improv crowd favorite "Goodbye Head" and the expanded instrumentation of "Cincinnati."

Trey is an interesting guy, to say the least. I HATED Shine when I first listened to it. In my mind I was like “he quit Phish so he could make this crap!”

BUT, the other week I listened to it again while on a long drive, five farking times.

I now love it!

Sometimes you just need to open your head/heart to really hear the good stuff in music.

ANYWAY, I am glad Trey is still pumping out Albums. I still think there are three other guys from Vermont who sound better then any band he could ever play with.

TREY, keep it coming, we love it, even if we are still bitter about the greatest band in rock and roll history breaking up.

=)

Yeah, I have a feeling this is going to be a good record. GRAB played Mud City, Dragonfly, and Goodbye Head at all good this year, and they all sounded right on point.

Saw Trey @ 4th and B. He looked elated and comfortable with himself. Just be glad he's alive and so are Mike, Page, and John (sp). Can't wait to see him again. Sure hope that GRAB makes a west coast swing in the spring.

I'm pretty stoked about this one. Glad to see that they added an instrumental section to Cincinnati and are closing with that as well! First time I heard Cincy live I was very impressed and immediately fell in love with its raw structure. I can't wait to hear the album, and am really looking forward to how they've reworked Cincinnati.

I ordered this and am looking forward to the potentially awesome album that should have been made INSTEAD of that piece of dogshit (no matter how honest and telling of personal issues it was), Shine.

wow - trey is an "improvisationalist," not an "improvisor."
You can say it.....improvisor
Improvisationalist makes it sound like a political party!
LOL
the rest of the article was cool
