PHIX
With no more Phish shows to attend, fans can satisfy their live Phish deprivation with PHIX. This summer brings the acclaimed Phish tribute band, PHIX, on a busy cross-country tour that moves them through the Midwest and across to both coasts between now and late September.

Directly inspired by the music and philosophies of Phish, the members of PHIX have been profoundly influenced both musically and as human beings by these jamband rock royalty.

Fans will be pleasantly surprised by how well-honed PHIX has become in their ability to play Phish's repertoire, but also how they have captured and recreated the intimate spirit of a live Phish show. With an open approach toward the music of Phish, PHIX maintains an inherent playfulness in each show by never playing any song the same way twice and keeping everything fresh.

In true Phish style, PHIX's primary focus is on live shows and testing the outer limits of improvisation through live jam sessions. Also in traditional Dead Head style is the band's open-recording policy, where fans are invited to record (audio or video) any of their live performances.

About the Band:
PHIX features Paul Murin on guitar and vocals, Derek Berg on keyboards and vocals, Chris Sheldon on drums and vocals, Brian Adams on bass and vocals, and Brad "Dex" Wertz on lights to truly capture that Phish experience both musically and psychedelically. With over 400 shows under their belt over the last five years, and a full round of scheduled shows yet to play, PHIX has proven themselves as a dedicated and talented tribute band to a group of musicians that virtually defined the jam-band scene and created a loyal following of fans in love with the spontaneity and intimacy of their music.

saw these guys a couple of years ago in P-town Maine. promoted their show actually...wicked cool guys and the show was kill-ah, dude! I was thoroughly impressed. No, it's not Phish...but just relax, they'll put you in that Phishy mood if that's what you want.
when is Phix coming back to Maine??? if you haven't done it yet, go get you a PHIX. you won't be disappointed. 'what IS the theme to this everlasting spoof?'

If you are one of the dissenters posting here, you really ought to check these guys out instead of simply casting aspersions. If you decide that they are in fact Spam, post on. But, my guess is that you will more likely be very, very surprised. I was.

When are they coming back to RIBCO? Where the hell are the midwest dates?! And yes, these guys are a cover band, but they freaking JAM! Very, very impressed...and yes, I've seen several pre-hiatus shows so I know what I'm talking about.

Why is there a problem with a group covering one of thier favorite bands material and doing it very well. Phix is an amazing band and they tear thier instruments.

cover bands are useless, yet somehow manage to make way more money than a lot of bands doing original music, therefor please come down and see my black male fronted, speed metal, Vanilla Ice cover Band, It is called Black Ice and will rock your f**kin face off

I remember being behind the wheel. Taking in the pristine country side with Bathtub Gin on the box. I was lauding it. Tears rolled down my face, I became furvid. I had an idea but knew it would become esoteric. I venerate phish so profoundly that I will risk shame to carry on their music. I'll call it Phix.

what is the matter with a tribute band? It is better than an "original" band that bites everyone's style (SCI anyone) At least phix has the nerve to admit they are what they are. they are fun to get drunk with and watch at a bar for what like 5 bucks? Plus they are nice guys and they are truly doing this for love and not money, obviously they are not getting rich playing phish tunes. All you cry babies act like you were born on phish tour and too cool for school. Enjoy your narrow view and useless bashing....you were probably doing it on the real phish lot too!

Phix performed at the Grateful Garcia Gathering a few years back. This band is rocks, and lays it down the Phish way! Check them out, you'll love them!

IF there phixin near you go peep these guys in, man. i can promise a great time. just go to the show with an open mind, they groove. All you kids rippin these guys, shouldn't you be on Panic tour, drinking jug handled moonshine, stay with panic and the confederacy.
go see live music and Phix is definitely live....
It's not an experience unless you bring someone along...

Give'em a break, hippiedick. Does anyone remember that the band they're covering started out doing numbers by a certain band out of SF? Chances are, if they have the musicianship to pull of Phish, they have the chops to write some cool stuff of their own. In fact, The Dead, Led Zeppelin, and the Stones all hit the road with virtually no original material when they started out.

While I understand that the function of cover bands is entirely debatable, I can tell you from first-hand knowledge that these folks are neither making much dough at all from this enterprise nor are they under any false impression that they are the originals. Hell, they are ripping it up by night with total abandon and slogging to the next bar in a smelly van by day. Fact is, several of them have had bands doing strictly originals of excellent material, and some of them continue to play in other bands. On countless occasions, I have witnessed folks arrive at a Phix show with deep personal reservations, only to be dancing wildly before set break having joyfully let go of their preconceived notions. It is really more about fun (I don't do the ph thing) for the players and the listeners, nothing nefarious or insidious!

I did a lot of Phish tour back in the day. They are very accomplished. So with all the hype debating and comments of how good these guys are, I'm definitely gonna have to check them out The Loft in Tempe Az.. I live in that area and was not planning on seeing them, but your comments changed my mind.

I've seen e'm. and if you like Phish the music of Phish or just like to hear jam band style music in a live setting it's worth the price at the door. go check it out and form your own opinion. I did and was plesently suprised to be groovin' all night.

Phix has been around for a good while, and that's for good reason. Though they are no Phish (no one but the boys will be) they're the closest thing to it. Phix certainly satisfies the urge to groove out to a Harry Hood or shout "Wilson!" I've seen them before and can't wait to see them again.

NO BAND CAN REPLICATE PHISH AND SHOULDNT BE ALLOWED TO ....IF PHIX WAS A GOOD BAND THEY WOULD DO THEIR OWN THING AND WOULDNT TRY TO IMITATE ANOTHER BAND

I like them. No its not Phish, but any band who can even come close is OK in my book. As posted above, its worth the $5 cover to go listen to Phish tunes and get drunk. The crowd is generally grooving too.

Also, if you like these guys, check out Weekapaug Orchestra, a Phish cover band out of Baltimore. They're not like Phix, I think they just do this on the side, so there are not a lot of shows. I think they rock the Phish tunes even harder than Phix. Check them out if you can. (www.weplayphish.com)
