Australia’s most successful indie band also wears the crown for the hardest working. For the Waifs, the road has been real nourishment: it is their fuel, their inspiration. Along with guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Josh Cunningham, Vikki and Donna Simpson have spent the past dozen years on an endless tour, kicking up dust around the world. That whirlwind came to an abrupt end last summer when the band took a hiatus to rest and start families of their own. Now the Waifs are back to reunite with their devoted audiences, live performance and the the road. And while each album they record – from 1996’s self-titled debut to 2003’s superlative Up All Night, has found the Waifs maturing as writers and performers, it is on the concert stage that they truly connect with their audience.

This connection was recently documented on A Brief History... their first live recording released in 2005 on Compass/Jarrah Records. Consisting of 29 live tracks recorded over the past four years and a bonus studio version of the concert favorite “Bridal Train”, A Brief History... is imbued with all the energy, charisma, and earthy soul that have won the Waifs new fans from their native Australia to Europe, America, and beyond. Along with their sly, poignant original tunes, A Brief History... boasts covers of Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan [who hand-picked the band to open for him on his 2003 North American tour].

American fans of the Waifs’ uniquely down-under slant on American roots-rock will be able to catch them in person on a brisk coast-to-coast tour beginning in Alexandria, VA on Thursday, August 3.

The Waifs are truly one of the greatest overlooked acts of our time. They are everything that is great about folk and americana music and any and everyone who loves roots music should give them a listen. The best bet is without a doubt the "A Brief History" collection as it's literally a brief history.

I love this band and PLEASE come to NC!!!!
