Space travel is all the buzz in the news these days. For the low low price of $25,000, you too can explore the unknown. Never fear, Chicago fans can enjoy just as cosmic an experience with the return of Astral Project.
Formed in 1978 from the cream of the New Orleans' modern jazz scene, the musicians include Tony Dagradi on sax, Steve Masakowski on guitar, James Singleton on bass, David Torkanowsky on piano and John Vidacovich on drums. True to the original spirit of jazz, Astral Project creates real tunes and memorable melodies while giving the musicians freedom to incorporate influences from all sources.
Astral Project have been designated "one of the most cohesive quintets in jazz of the '90's" by Downbeat Magazine. Their solar fires will flare throughout Chicago beginning Thursday, January 25th with a three night run at the fabulous Green Mill.
These veteran musicians will also be offering Chicago area fans and musicians a unique experience as they host a jazz improvisation workshop at the Old Town School of Folk Music at 3:00 pm Saturday, January 27th. During this two-hour workshop, members of Astral Project will be demonstrating their skill on their individual instruments, making this workshop suitable for jazz musicians of all levels and any instrument.
To complete the long weekend, Silver Wrapper invites you to join them Saturday, January 28th as they present Astral Project in an after midnight jam set at the Boulevard Cafe in Logan Square.
It's sure to be four days of the stellar jazz in Chicagoland. But hey, don't let it stop you from catching Astral Project as they end the weekend at the Civic Center in Madison, WI on Sunday night!
