UMPHREY'S CANCELS TAHOE

From Umphrey's McGee:

We regretfully must cancel our Crystal Bay Club show scheduled for tomorrow night, Monday April 10th, due to weather concerns.

We transport ourselves in a tour bus, and our gear in a semi tractor trailer. With considerable snowfall on the way, the highway patrol in the Crystal Bay/Tahoe area are extremely strict about allowing semi trucks and busses on the roads leading in and out of town. The safety of traveling on these roads with a bus and semi is extremely questionable, so we appreciate your understanding. With this being said, we unfortunately have to reschedule a return to the Crystal Bay/Tahoe area for another time.

We are extremely grateful to the folks at McNear’s Mystic Theatre, who have given us the OK to do another show in Petaluma tomorrow night. So in place of the Crystal Bay Club show, we will be doing a second night at McNear’s Mystic Theatre in Petaluma, CA. Tickets will be $15, show will be 18+, doors at 8 PM, show at 9 PM. We hope that you can make it to see us for night 2 at the Mystic Theatre tomorrow night. Tickets for the Crystal Bay Club will be refunded and a separate ticket will need to be purchased for the second Petaluma show.

Thanks to all of you who had plans on seeing us at the Crystal Bay Club, we hope to return to the area sometime soon, weather permitting!

Now I read this! I just loved driving 2 hours back & forth from Reno in the snow & spending $8 in gas to find out the show was cancelled when I got there. Thanx UM! This is the 3rd show they've canceled in Tahoe due to snow.

m00ns, the fact that everyone likes them might have to do with the fact that they are absolute world class musicians. they are also one of the tightest bands, especially during live improvisations that has come along in a very long time. i happen to absolutely love umphrey's but to each his own...

Skooter17, If Umph only sold 50 tix, I can tell you 2 things, 1. I've seen them play for 15 people at a show before, so I doubt they are so high and mighty that they wouldn't play for any fans that come to listen, and 2. People in Crystal Bay/Tahoe have no idea what good music is. GO SEE UMPH!!!

Skooter17 is wrong, was not because of ticket sales. I should know, I was the one selling tickets. UM is a top notch, professional act and would never cancel a show for that reason. The show will be made up.

Im kind of ashamed at UM for dissin tahoe. I am totally afraid of driving in bad weather, and even by my wussy standards, the roads were nowhere near scary. Many bands drive up there all the time in way shittier weather. Weak. Lsat time they played this tahoe venue, it was WONDERFUL. Too bad they had to schwag out this round. They better redeem themselves at HSMF and play their late nite til the crows call!!

You guys are talking shit b/c you made it up there in your subarus. These dudes have a huge, beat-up van or bus maybe with a trailer that slides around on ice and water. Quit your self-interested posts or I'm gonna sick Cartman on you.

Valuable lesson learned: from now on I'll always call a venue before I leave to make sure the band hasn't wussed out. If every band canceled a show in Tahoe or Reno b/c of the threat of bad weather, there'd never be a show in Tahoe or Reno from October to June. Meanwhile, G Love managed to make it up there the night before in the snow, played again Monday, then it snowed again on Tuesday. Friends of mine in a band in Reno have a van & trailer & they drive over Mt. Rose - a much nastier road than I-80 - regularly & they're making maybe $300 rather than the thousands UM is. Considering UM is from Chicago, they must cancel lots of shows back there.

Mr. SteveinReno,
Im glad you learned something from this debacle. Yes, you should always call in the event of incliment weather. But what you haven't learned is that there is a distinct difference between a van w/ trailer and a tour bus with matching semi. Also, G Love traveled to the venue 48 hrs prior to this event, allowing copious time for weather and local DOT regulations to change barring UM's original route. Lastly, chicago is FLAT, and i trust you know that the crystal bay region is not. Simple really, but you are right about one thing, CALL FIRST.
