Night three of Jam in the Dam went by like a cloud of smoke. Time seemed to both stand still and run away as the end of the festival rapidly approached. One minute we were watching the basement jazz of The Duo, the next we were in the "Circus" of STS9, and Umphrey's McGee's "Hangover" led all the way to Bisco's "Story of the World." The music seemed to peak on night two, but all the bands closed the festival in their own fashion for their dancing soldiers. One of the most remarkable things about the festival was the die hard fans for each of the four bands that made the long trip to support their team. Four separate yet friendly armies of music fans converged and everybody won!
Big hats off to all the employees of the Melkweg who were so kind and to the production staff for putting on a seamless event. Whatever hiccups were in the system went unnoticed by the audience at large. The Melkweg itself was an inviting home for the three days, and it was a treat to see the bands in these intimate settings now that they are all moving up so quickly in the States.
All in all, good times were had and memorable experiences were made. So start saving your Euros, block out the time, get your passport renewed, and get ready for next year's Jam in the Dam. Au revoir!
