Derek Trucks by Susan J. Weiand
Derek Trucks, busy supporting the release of his new album Songlines in the US will "take a break" to join Eric Clapton's band for his European tour starting in May.

On the heels of his latest album, Back Home, Eric Clapton hits the road again launching a just announced world tour beginning in Europe on May 5 and traveling to 13 European countries with an already sold out 7-night run at London's Royal Albert Hall. Additional news of this tour will follow shortly, including announcements of several exciting tour dates featuring venues never-before-played by Clapton and his band.

Clapton has assembled an impressive band, including several album collaborators. The 2006 tour band will consist of: Eric Clapton, guitar, as well as Doyle Bramhall II and Derek Trucks also on guitar, Chris Stainton and Tim Carmon on keyboards, Willie Weeks on bass, Steve Jordan on drums, The Kick Horns: Simon Clarke, Roddy Lorimer, and Tim Sanders on brass, and backing vocals by Michelle John and Sharon White.

that's great to hear. more people should check some of the great music coming from the dtb. It's definitely a range of styles that not a lot of bands are doing. Who plays motown and eastern music in the same set? plus the kickass blues tunes. For those who can't go to europe (myself included) go check out the yonrico scott band if you want a taste. happy hunting

I heard a rumour that this band would be called "Derek and the Dominoes."

OH MY GOD. Derek has the capability to be the greatest slide player of all time - now he's with Clapton!! This is going to be a slaughterhouse, night in and night out. Derek's been at the slide for over a decade now, while Duane only played slide for 2 years. Allman Beacon run, watch out!!!

HOLY SHIT MAN HOLY SHIT

I heard tale of this happening awhile ago, but i never seriously believed it...but it has actually happened. My two favorite guitar players will be sharing the same stage.

I'm buying me a plane ticket to europe.

I first heard of this at "DOWN ON THE FARM FESTIVAL" last Nov. I have been waiting for conformation, but more importantly, news of that tour coming to the U S. I have seen Derek quite a few times in his band as well as in ABB. Those who hanen't, sholud waste no time as he is one of the all time greats.

what an honor for Trucks, and what an intelligent move by Clapton! this will undoubtably provide some much deserved exposure for the DTB. Added hopes for a state side tour from this guitarist too!

This is so damn cool! Can't wait to hear this band. Please a live disc of this tour! Aside from the obvious (Derek and Eric), Steve Jordan is such a sick drummer too.

I got my tickets to Clapton in Stuttgart a while ago and was stoked just to see Clapton. I really can't believe that Derek Trucks is in his band now. That showis going to be sooo much better.

This is the greatest news I have heard for a long time. I'm pissed about bonnaroo this year and haven't heard anything about a widespread tour yet but they are doing a new album and I was hoping for at least a DTB show this summer and now it's even better. I hope Derek is promoted with Clapton because he definately is already well established among people in the music scene but he still is unknown to a lot of people. After a tour like this he could be huge. I would love to see his talent more recognized. I'm a big fan of Clapton too but I'm not sure I would disagree if I heard someone say Trucks is a better musician. I think these will be the bluesiet shows clapton has played for a while too now that Derek is on board. I can't fucking wait. Anyone with ears should do themselves a favor and go chek it out.

A good reminder of how talented Eric Clapton is to take a look at George Harrison's benefit concert for bangledesh and Cream's farewell concert in sixty eight. Don't get me wrong Derek Trucks is unstoppable, but he's not Dicky Betts and definitely not Duane Allman. A good listen to any live allman concerts from late 60's and early seventies will reinforce what I just said. Don't shun the greats just because they are gone or too old to get you off.

This is great, and I would love to see Eric Clapton and Derek Trucks play together in the US at some point, but what does this mean for an Allman Brothers summer tour? I see that Clapton has dates in Europe all Summer until 7/31, and he plans on continuing this tour into 2007. So far, no Allmans dates for the Summer. Does anyone know anything?

-Excited but nervous Allmans fan

This can be the re-birth of Derek & the Dominoes' music. I hope they play some tracks from the aborted 2nd album. Trucks added new flavor to ABB, now he can revive D&Ds.

before any rumors get started, i can say definitively that dickey betts will not be touring with the allman brothers this summer nor anytime in the forseeable future. The rift is that great. The allmans have been talking for some time about taking a year off, but it's hard to imagine that they would do it now with all the momentum that's been built up in the past two years. Derek Trucks is the allman brothers band now and in the future, they will not tour without him.

Nice DT and Eric, but I had read this article a while back, and the other day I noticed the Allman Brothers are playing City Stages in Birmingham,AL. Talked to my friend about goin to see that now that i just read the comments i may not go. The ABB w/o derek would probably dissapoint me, because I was lucky enough to catch the Big House Show the last night of the 2005 Allman Brothers Beacon Theatre run. I hope to see some Derek/Eric shows in the US, its great to know about Europe, but I would be much happier to see a US tour so I can actaully go see them.

You and me both JammyMcjamjam. Now its the SSR, ABB, and the dTb has taken a back seat and that just all out sucks for us dTb fans. I wish he'd cut the ABB out completely and just stick with dTb and SSR.

It has been mentioned before by some other people online that the band members in dTb may be supported by $wise by the ABB while Derek is on the road. Wouldn't surprise me at all if you look at Sunbiz as Butch Trucks is listed as an officer in the DTB, Inc. in FL.

Does anybody know if Derek Trucks is going to be with Clapton and his band for the three shows he's doing with Steve Winwood? I know Trucks is considered a part of his band but I can't find anywhere where it says for sure he's playing then. thanks
