My Morning Jacket, moe., Benevento/Russo Duo Lead Nominations For Sixth Annual Jammys
All-Star Concert To Include Performances By moe., Béla Fleck & The Flecktones, Guster, Joe Satriani, Richie Havens, Savion Glover, Baaba Maal, Peter Frampton, Blues Traveler, Many More
February 23, 2006 My Morning Jacket, moe. and the Benevento/Russo Duo lead the nominations for the 6th Annual Jammys awards to be handed out April 20th at the Theater at Madison Square Garden. This year's Jammys kicks off the inaugural Green Apple Music and Arts Festival, the biggest Earth Day celebration in the country.
My Morning Jacket secured nominations in the studio album of the year (Z), song of the year ("Off the Record") and live performance of the year categories (San Francisco, 11/11/05). moe. is nominated for the archival release of the year (Warts and All, Volume 4), tour of the year (for their summer trek with the Allman Brothers Band) and show of the year trophies (Tsunami Relief Benefit, New York, 2/10/05). The Benevento/Russo Duo is up for studio album (Best Reason to Buy the Sun), song ("Becky") and tour of the year honors (their December trek with Phish's Mike Gordon).
Keyboardist John Medeski, ex-Phish bassist Mike Gordon and the North Mississippi Allstars are nominated in three categories apiece for their work in various projects, while Widespread Panic, Ryan Adams, Grace Potter, New Monsoon, and the Allman Brothers Band all garnered two nominations each. Confirmed performers for this year's awards show and all-star concert include moe., Little Feat, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, guitar hero Joe Satriani, jam giants Blues Traveler, '70s arena rocker Peter Frampton, folk icon Richie Havens, African star Baaba Maal, as well as The Mutaytor, McCoy Tyner, Savion Glover, Mad Professor, Angelique Kidjo, Steve Kimock, Stephen Perkinsof Jane's Addiction, Bettye LaVette, Guster, Martin Sexton, and DJ Logic. More names will be announced in coming weeks.
Critically acclaimed for creating once-in-a-lifetime collaborations between the likes of Sinead O¹Connor and Burning Spear, John Mayer and Buddy Guy and Travis Tritt with the Disco Biscuits, this year's event will include a special tribute to music pioneer Frank Zappa featuring Dweezil Zappa and Napoleon Murphy Brock and specials guests. Zappa will be posthumously presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

In between performances, nine Jammys trophies will be handed out in categories voted on by fans, while a Lifetime Achievement award will be given out at the end of the night. In years past, Lifetime Achievement trophies have been bestowed upon B.B. King, The Meters, the Grateful Dead, Steve Winwood and Buddy Guy.
