What would you call these guys...? Photo by Dino Perrucci |
Do you have a great idea for a band name? The band formerly known as The Frequinox needs you! This ensemble, which includes Robert Walter (Greyboy Allstars, Super Heavy Organ), Will Bernard, (TJ Kirk), Donald Harrison (The Headhunters), Robert Mercurio (Galactic) and Stanton Moore (Galactic, Garage a Trois), is in the market for a new name. Festival Promoter, Alex Andreas, brought the band members together in 2003, when they played their first gig together at Jazzfest. The result was an undeniably funky and powerful supergroup. In order to avoid confusion with the Frequinox Music Festivals that Alex has created for the past six years, it was decided that the band should come up with a new name.
As most of the members of the former Frequinox call New Orleans home, it seems appropriate that the band will begin touring under its new name with a show at Jazzfest 2006 in New Orleans. More dates will be announced soon. The band hopes that their new name will reflect the nature of the music that they are making (pure and unadulterated funk!), and perhaps honor New Orleans, the home of many musicians and a home away from home for many others. Be sure to check in with the band on their new Myspace page for contest updates and tourdates.
Please submit ideas for the new band name via e-mail to Stephanie@ragman.org by March 1st. Include the words "Frequinox Contest" in the subject line. The winner of the contest will be notified via email and will earn a spot on the band's guest list for life, as well as the pleasure of knowing that they named one of the best bands on the planet!
